Greetings. I recently replaced the controller board on an mpc4502 to correct an SC816 issue. That did resolve the 816 issue but a few hours later the customer started complaining they could no longer print to the copier. Sure enough it lost connection. Thinking I had a defective controller bd I replaced it again and updated the firmware. Same result. Tech support recommended I replace the NVRAM but I'm not to confident thats the solution either. It'll work fine for a while then it drops out again. You turn it off then on and it's fine. I did do a memory clear for the printer and image holding and it seemed to work for a wjile longer and then it was gone again. Anyone have any ideas or seen this? It was fine before I replaced the Vontroller board.

Did you do a memory clear on NCS? Do a print out of the current network settings (System Settings -> Interface Settings -> Print List), clear NCS, then re-input the basic settings to see if it keeps. Also, check that the NVRAM pins haven't been bent; could also be a poor connection. -

Could be another device with same IP address on the network.Comment

Try to set machine to DHCP to obtain IP address from server, and print to host name que instead of ip address.Comment

Re: MPC 4502 Intermittently Falls Off The Network
I have had a machine or two do this and I talked to one of our network specialists as well.
Try taking the network port out of "automatic" for speed and lock it on lower speed to see if that helps (it is in user tools). The network tech mentioned sometimes a customer network isn't all that hot and machines can and will drop off due to a variety of reasons, but that locking the port on a certain speed helps a fair amount of time.Comment

Could also be an defective port in the network switch.Comment

Re: MPC 4502 Intermittently Falls Off The Network
Thanks to all the reply's on this issue. I followed the recommendations of the last person I spoke to at Ricoh's tech support and she had recommended that I do a Memory Clear of just the printer and Image handling. That was last Wednesday or Thursday I believe and I returned today and they said it's been running fine. They will be using it very heavily this Wednesday coming and that will be the test to determine if it's reall okay. We shall see! But again thanks for all the input. If it doesn't hold up at least I have a few more things to try.Comment

I recently heard this from our Regional Rep. have the network people disable SNMP. The theory is that Microsoft had an update that is now causing this problem for many different brands of MFPs.Comment

Re: MPC 4502 Intermittently Falls Off The Network
I can back up the advice to turn off SNMP reporting on the print queue. There is a problem where some MFD's will report as 'offline' on some MS servers, even though they are fine and direct printing works. Turn off SNMP, server no longer thinks the MFD is offline and hey presto, printing works.Comment
