    MP4000 Transfer Belt

I have been trying to figure this one out for quite awhile now, and it may even be a goofy question.

A few of my Mp4000's tranfer belt rides to the rear frame causing the belt to make a rubbing noise and to cut a grove into the tansfer belt arm. I have tried to make adjustments to the belt arms and rollers to get the belt to stay centered, but after a time they seem to ride to the rear frame again.
I have even tried a couple brand new transfer belt units with the same result.

Has anyone seen this before, and if so have you figured out what is causing it?

Do you coat the cleaning blade with toner? At least on the older series that seemed to help keep noise down, and to keep the belts from riding...

I have not seen the problem on 40 and 50 page machines, but I have seen it on 60-90 page machines when one of the arms cracks or one of the ball bearings fails. If the belt fits tighter at one end that the other it will walk toward the tighter end. It could be the belt itself, uneven pressure from the cleaning blade, or the rollers not being parallel as from bad bearings or cracked arm.

Have you tried fitting a printer kit ITB assy?
We tend to do this as it's a cheap/time saving solution.

This is about the paper transfer belt used on 40 and 50 page black/white machines, not the ITB used in color MFPs. Used the same belt since the Aficio 350 and 450.

I've seen that a couple of times on the older 35/45 CPM machines, and I mostly agree with Slimslob. Check what he told you to.
But I'm curious, what kind of environment is the machine exhibiting that problem in? While normally when I saw that problem back in the day it would indicate that the transfer belt and cleaning blade needed to be changed, it sounds like you have already tried that. But I have seen that a couple of times in places where the users were strong people that worked very hard with large machines, and would occasionally treat their MFDs and printers the same way. In the somewhat unlikely circumstance the problem machine is in that type of environment, you might want to check where the transfer unit attaches to the right hand door.

THere's a mod bulleting for the transfer beld holder frame thingy IIRC but it doesn't really fix this well known issue.

in fact the problem is that the belt moves to the bottom of the copier,

I try to change the complete transfer unit but it's the same

it's a habit of this series - doesn't really affect the function or lead to noise issues in most cases. A mate of mine did some sort of mod with teflon tape in order to supress a noise issue and we also replaced the frame part with the modified one to resolve a noise issue - still the belt is always running more or less tendy towards the rear side of the engine.
