From what I have measured in the past these units have a gap set at the factory to 0.45-0.50mm. There is no official specification, they are factory set and supposedly not to be adjusted in the field.
Nuts to that, I have been setting this family of products to a snug 0.35mm and setting the toner supply rate from the stock value of 850 to 650 to help keep things running cleaner. Where some units couldn't get to 100k I'm now seeing cleaner machines out past 200k and even reaching life on the less problematic ones. Cleaning the mag roller is critical - use a small brass brush to get the grooves really clean.
Measure a known good one.
Wipe the developer to one side and try different size feeler gauge.
Use a metric gauge, the copiers are designed in Japan.
I have found on all Ricoh products is that the DV brush is too high.
I have found that some fresh out of the factory were uneven, as much as .2mm.
I set all 35/45 machines to a TIGHT .35, .30 slips without turning the mag roller easy and .4 won't fit.
Great answer! Thanks, this really helps. I had a Dr. blade cleaner, one of those plastic strips, break off behind the blade and couldn't get it out. After replacing the blade i used that same strip as a guide and it worked fairly well. The copy's are ok with just a little background. Next PM I'll try the settings you recommended to try to clean it up.
I had one 2060 on field with uneeven doctor blade,I have no idea how it happened,it was first and only time I had that problem so far.
Machine wuld to about 3 or 4 prints and then SC441 pop's out...developement motor lock.
I noticed a pile of developer on dev. housing beneath mag. roller, made me think it piled up on that place and then bursts out true the gap, locking developing assembly.
Since I didn't have much options on field I placed 2 papers in doctor blade gap to make it even and tighened the screws, that gap wasn't good enough so I placed 3 papers in,tightened the screws and it worked like a charm.
So in summary I think gap is wide about 3 papers.
Gears, springs, clutches, sliders, connectors and electronics...who on earth can tell what's wrong with it?
