Through the doc feeder or off the glass? Or do you get the same thing both ways?

Do a memory clear on the copier memory, and clean the white reference plate just in case.

If it is still there you may need to do an engine clear, as long as you have the factory defaults sheet.

I`m betting that a full memory clear is probably what caused the issue in the first place. As Ruben said, hopefully you have the factory data sheet to re-enter the settings

No two machines are built the same, settings will differ between them. You may be lucky and find that one machines settings may work, but I would rather aim to input the defaults.

The manual will only give you a rough sense of what the settings should be.

No. It's otherwise known as the "birth certificate". Every machine is different.
Memory clear is often what someone unfamiliar with the machine will do to solve any number of problems - including fuser errors! It causes all kinds of undesirable issues, including the one you've shown, and should be considered a LAST RESORT
The sheet should be inside the front cover underneath the jam removal sheet.

              Good luck!

EDIT: Ruben beat me to the punch!

This is not an uncommon issue, it's been addressed on this forum several times and I've seen it myself. The gray balance has reset to factory default.

Background when ADS Mode is turned Off
In Full Color the background is a process black, In Black and White mode the background is gray. With ADS on there is no evident backgrounding. When ADS is turned off and exposure is at the center setting, backgrounding is exhibited. Print Jobs and internal prints do not have background

                  [Cause]
The gray balance adjustment NV RAM Data has been corrupted and has reverted to the default value
                  [Resolution]
Reset the value of SP 4685 - 001 and 002, SP4686 - 001 and 002 and SP4687 - 001 and 002 to the value on the Factory Data Sheet.(Located under Jam Instruction Sheet on the Front Cover)
If the Factory Data Sheet is not available try starting with these settings and fine tuning as needed.

                  • SP4686-001 to -6 SP4686-002 to -6
