Ricoh C830DN Default to Simple Screen

    All,

Hopefully this can be done. We just installed a C830DN for our student body to use, and I'd like to keep them out of the more complex settings, and just show the simple screen.

Is it possible to either A. Default to the simple screen on boot, or better B. lockout all but the simple screen completely?

    Thanks!

Complex settings? C830 is a printer...

Indeed... but these are college students. If things don't print the way they want, or if they're bored, they're going to start poking around menus, which I'd like to avoid.

Have you considered putting a lockable cover over the buttons?

On the copier version you can lock out the system settings with a machine administrator lock, lock out the use of any screens with a number or user/pass combo, and then lock out the creation of these access codes. All these settings are in System Settings -> Administrator Tools, they may be the same on the printer version.

Have you considered answering the original question rather than proposing an alternate solution first? =/ I can't say I've seen a "lockable cover" option for this printer...

okay, I'll see what I can find. I really like Ricoh printers, but they seriously have engineers doing their firmware design, because some of this stuff just seems mind-numbingly obvious.

You need to enable 'Menu Protect" Level 1 or 2 in User Tools (after you enable Administrator Management). This will prevent prying eyes and fingers from sabotaging your settings. The specifics of what Level 1 and 2 cover are listed in the User Guide on pg. 213.
