I have a customer who keeps on receiving a fax and it jams when it receives it. The reason the mfp jams is because the incoming fax is A4 so the mfp will pull the paper from the letter size tray and jam upon exit. I have spoke with the key operator and I we are in the process of determining if this is coming from one or multiple senders. Is there any way I can make the mfp default to legal or letter r size when this happens to resolve the issue, maybe through soft switch settings?

Re: mp c3300 jamming on incoming A4 faxs
Is the paper tray actually set for ltr or programmed for A4 with letter size paper in it? Remove the paper from the tray and have an a4 size fax sent. The display will indicate what size and orientation is needed. It shouldn't automatically pull letter size when it's looking for A4.
In Fax User Tools, make sure User Parameter Switch 10, bit 3 is set to "1". This enables auto reduction.Last edited by teebee1234; 01-09-2014, 03:38 AM. -
Re: mp c3300 jamming on incoming A4 faxs
I agree. Auto A4 is the feature to look for. It will automatically substitute letter any time A4 is requested.
Technically the machine is not jamming. It's just requesting a paper size that is not present, and doing exactly what it is supposed to. Requesting the matching paper size. Now if the enduser has deliberately misprogrammed the paper tray to A4, and left letter paper in the tray, yes it will jam. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: mp c3300 jamming on incoming A4 faxs
Thank you for the responses, the mfp is set to 8.11 in tray one and tray 2 is set to 8.14, however, it pulls from tray 1 and and "stops/ jams." To relieve the issue temporarily, I currently have the customer open the paper trays and load the bypass with 8.14 and it "completes" the fax jobs. I will try changing the bit switch to 1 and see if I can have the mfp reduce the incoming faxes. I will keep you posted on my results and thanks again.Comment

Re: mp c3300 jamming on incoming A4 faxs
Are the faxes coming from a metric standard country so that they would be on A4, or is the user just seeing the display or status showing A4 -> A4 or something like that? I thought that all fax machines showed A4 to A4 as their status during transmission.
If nothing else, the machine should act as if it's out of paper if a size not in the machine is requested shouldn't it? It's been awhile since I've needed to troubleshoot a fax issue that didn't boil down to a phone line so I don't recall if the fax function is that 'smart' or not...Comment

Re: mp c3300 jamming on incoming A4 faxs
The only time I have seen a machine jam because of the size of the incoming FAX was on a 4 tray machine where one of the trays was set for legal but loaded with letter. The incoming FAX was legal size, the machine tried to print it on what it thought was legal paper and jammed. With the tray properly set for letter size (they customer does not use legal) they machine automaticly reduced the fax to fit the paper available.Comment
