    Used parts :-(

    Hi all

I often get sparparts in beat up boxes, labeled "this part is unused" but when I open it, the part is old, damaged, dirty...

Why does people send this old crap back, really bad habit.

Is this a problem you guys/girls can recognize?

    Re: Used parts :-(

Hell yes, this is the worst idea Ricoh has come up with. I've been burned many times ordering down parts and getting broken, used, empty box or wrong part in right box. I've taken pictures of these and looked at the shipping label of the previous tech that had it (usually under mine, I'll put alcohol on the top label and rub it off to get the dumbass previous owner). Then I shoot off an email to the the tech and his manager explaining that because of their laziness/stupidity (actually a little more tactful), we may lose a customer.
The problem is the manager is not inspecting the excess return items and signing off on them. Imagine, actually taking responsibility.

I've got to be honest and say it's not a problem I often come up against, once in a blue moon, maybe I'm just lucky

        Re: Used parts :-(

This was an Ikon problem. It all started with an obsessive parts frugality.

So you've had this part showing in your stock for a while and the parts department wants it back. Some techs might not have the part to return, so they find a box. And you can't return an empty box, so they put something in it. Then it gets shipped out to somebody else, somebody like you.

Then you open the box, and what do you get? Some garbage in a box. Me? I'd peel back some of the stickers, and find out where i came from. Then I return the garbage to the parts dept with a place to point the finger. This happened a lot at the transition.

Then Ikon decided that techs don't need new parts. So you order a new widget. The request ends up at the graveyard. You get a mostly used widget. Does it fix your problem? No. Would a new one fix your problem? It's hard to say since you won't get a new one. Four orders later you get a widget in good enough condition to solve your problem. So how much money have you saved? And if you managed to save any money at this point, do you still have a customer? The machine has been down for weeks.
        =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Re: Used parts :-(

We have never had a problem with parts. We did have a problem one time on toner for the Pro 1357ex. They had some new people in the warehouse who though it would save time if they opened all the toner cases and dump in a bin. They didn't know that there was a difference between 1357ex toner and 1357 toner. Half the toner we got was printer toner.

My latest thrift shop parts received, in soft jumped on boxes:

            1. White roller for mp6500 - very used with deep mark.
            2. CIS unit with PCB for the same machine - broken. sc181-182 as the old...
            3. Img, transfer Unit for MPC305 - old, dirty dumped in the box.
            4. Fusing unit for 1224c - Broken lamps.
            5. LSU mpc 3000 - Old, broken, dirty.

It's so frustrating, but now I have learned my lesson and check the parts (if the box looks vintage) before traveling to the customer :-)

I really love the retro-thing but not when it's spare parts :-)

What a difference 2 days make. We had a team meeting yesterday and the final subject was returned parts. Ricoh's new policy is that all boards that have had the seal broken must be sent to Hytec for inspection, whether actually used or not. Any parts that are returned for excess, the tech and his manager must sign a paper stating that they are in new condition and it is placed in the return box along with the parts. The penalty for not complying could be "disciplinary action up to and including termination." Woo Hoo!

You know teebee, sometimes when we whine out here on the forums, it means nothing ... and sometimes the right ears hear. That's more than I can say for any manufacturer's tech rep I've ever had. =^..^=

OMG this has really been pissing me off lately!

In the past two weeks I have gotten 3 busted up, used, and broken parts for down machines!

This week it was that long and thin fusing exit sensor actuator in the MP171/161 that was SHATTERED in a box taped up with cheap scotch tape.

Last week it was one of those "H" parts that someone must've ripped out of the old machine since all 4 of the plastic guides that wrap around the pully were all broken to bits.

Before that it was a toner hopper that was covered in toner and spat toner out the front when you pushed the handle down.

I'm glad somebody will be getting fired for this!

I must add to this chorus and say this has happened to me a few times. Seemingly new parts arrive in the box, via the main agents, and I find pure crap inside. Return it to the agents, I get veiwed with suspicion usually. Can't says that I blame them. Been a while though as I'm in a hiatus between jobs, and between countries. Will be more wary in future when, and if, moving and a new job.

I believe it. In the old days I worked for a German company doing that. They selenium drums after being in use in our own office machines where sold to a customer in Egypt as new. Those days a selenium drum was huge and an extremely expensive item. I was responsible for technical training of that customer in Cairo and found this out on the spot. That was the reason I quit my job with that company and became an Indy.
