    Mpc4500 duplex jam

Replaced fuser now getting duplex jams. Brand new perfect fuser. Simplex is perfect. Seems to be jamming after first side done.
Makes a whining sound also on duplex.
    any thoughts?

    Thanks

When you open the duplex unit there's a sensor at the top of the unit that detects the movement of the junction gate which leads the paper into the duplex unit. This sensor gets dirty because it's located in the exhaust fan area.

And what jam codes are you getting?

The idler roller on the plastic refeed guide of the fuser can get one end pushed in, causing uneven pressure on this idler roller section - which causes noise, skew and jams on duplex only.

Does it still happen when you try the old fuser unit ?

              Re: Mpc4500 duplex jam

I know the idler roller thing sounds kind of obvious, but only last week we had a very experienced tech replace a fuser in a 4500 with a brand new unit. Same day callback for skew and jams duplex. Tech goes back and spent an hour fiddling with ptr etc. Then he went back a day later with an entire door assy off a known good machine. Next day he called in sick and the job got handballed to me. I knew nothing about all of these procedings. Went on site, tested duplex - plenty of skew on second side. Imediately spotted the idler front bush depressed in, popped it out and retested the machine. All perfect again, and the customer couldnt believe it took me about 1 minute to fix it.

So it can happen to anyone, and in this case was immediatley after the tech replaced the fuser.

                  Re: Mpc4500 duplex jam

Went back this morning and jam counter shows all jams to be 64:junction gate feed : off

tore apart and check everything now get a j067 jam.

i brought another fuser and it works fine. Compared and see nothing out of place.

                  anymore ideas?

Is it a rebuilt fuser? Is the one way bearing on the correct way around?
Networking skills are advantageous but use of a 3m vacuum cleaner is essential

I only see one, one way bearing driven gear and it is on correctly. I have torn the fuser apart and all seems fine. This is certainly odd that simplex is great and duplex jams.

                      Any other thoughts?

with the machine on and in a ready state, push in and out on the rear side of the door just below the adf and see if you trigger a door open warning. I have had several machines jam on duplex because the push switch on the rear side goes faulty works fine when in single mode as soon as paper inverts to the door it wiggles enough to cause the door open and jam at the duplex entrance sensor. Anymore on these i always push in on the rear side of the door and let it push in and out 5 or 6 times and see if i get a door open. Worth a shot

Okay, tore the fuser apart and reassembled and works perfect. Very odd indeed!

I had jams on MPC 4500 when Guide Plate:Open And Close (14 on pic) B2234471 was deformated by temp. Gate Pawl:Entrance (2 on pic) was not able to full open.
