Main mounting hindges holding the tranfer unit in position may be cracked or broken at the pivit point.
Disassemble tranfer unit away from duplex unit to locate the problem.
SMC report should show you where further problems exist.

mpc 4500 has a set of rollers in back of transfer unit, the spring hooks that holds it place break. not sure if the mpc 2800 has the same. Honestly never experienced it in mpc 2800 but it is very common in mpc4500.
check the exit guide above the fuse unit,it is probably warped from the heat. Unfortunately you need to take it out and strip it to see the damage. Had it many many times. The guide d0294424 and i believe there is a modified sensor aw010127
What are the jam codes, there is a TSB for J064 and J067 jams for a warped guide. Its also not uncommon for the transfer deck rear hinge to break this would probably be noticable as the deck pretty much flops out of place when that happens unless its only cracked and not completly off. They added a metal stay to the transfer deck for that problem.
I would post the jam codes and check the transfer deck is not broken. I believe there is also a couple one way gears on the rear side that may be slipping so its not transporting as it should.
