[CQ] Address Book Backup and Restore

Hello everyone, does anyone know if I use the WIM address book backup and restore to from one machine to another if the passwords for scan to folder destinations get transferred?

And while I'm here I keep running into restoring to machines that have a key display name field from machine that don't so to the end user they just think the address book is empty. Is there any quick way to modify a the address book without using SDM or other tools? So that key display name equals the first 16 characters of the name?

I've tried this in the past on older Ricoh's and the wim export would not import to another machine. Also the Sd card export will not import to another machine, unless you can modify the metadata of the file. That export file is named by the serial #, and changing the name won't do it.

As far as the blank key display name goes this is usually done by adding to the address book from the wim. When you add from the wim the name entered does not automajically populate the key display name like the machine does when adding from the user tools on the display.

On older models, the backup from WIM might not be compatable accross models.

From one machine to another of the same model group is usually posible. I have had restore give an error message but the addresses were still restored.

when using WIM to backup and restore, the passwords are transferred. smart device monitor does not transfer passwords.

with regards to the key display question. you can use smart device monitor to export it as a csv file, then modify the file, then import the modifies file into the machine.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going from multiple models mp1600/2000/161 3300s etc. To mostly mpc305/3503 and mp2001.

Thanks for the conformation that passwords for SMB do make the transfer.

Sadly I can't get permission to run SDM on the customer's network. So it looks like I'm stuck emailing the backups to myself uploading them to a machine on our network and doing the export to CVS, fix, import then backup. Which would be fine with a couple of hundred. Sadly I've got over a thousand to do.

Any have any experiance automating the modification of the address book via WIM?
