    [Dead] C3502 Firmware Failure

    Hey all,

Currently working on a C3502 that is currently dead due to a tech updating the firware and unplugging the machine accidently. We have replaced the control board and NVRAM as per Ricohs instructions but still no success. Even before the boards being replaced the screen remains completely blank at all times. According to my tech he was in the middle of doing the LCDC firware when he killed the power. Does anyone have any ideas why even with new NVRAM and control board that the screen remains blank?? the main power light does light up but the actual screen and controls are dead. Any help and assistance is greatly appreciated

In the newer service manuals, there is a section that tells you which firmware lives in which component, i.e. controller or BICU nvram etc. That'll give you an idea as to what part to replace.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Thats why the control board and NVRAM were being replaced was because of tech supports' suggestion and the new service manual, didnt solve the issue

This is correct. The LCDC firmware is transfered to the operation panel. If you power off during firmware transfer, the only recovery is to replace the operation panel.

That is what I was thinking of trying next but was told by my manager that it wouldnt work. I do have another machine here I can steal a op panel from but we use it in our office and I have to wait. I'll let ya know if it solves the problem

Yes, but not everyone who looks at a thread so Paul adds a post for them to see.

It seems that you have to replace the op panel.
Are you sure nothing is shown on LCD even pointing a light source to it?
Anyway the manual says that in case of failure just reinsert the SD Card and turn on the machine and it will retry updating the broken firmware.
Goose guide also tells to try to clear last broken frimware update with stop(x2)143clear(x3).

Thank you Mike and Slim it was the op panel causing the problem, tested it with one from a C3002 and I was able to have the screen working again going to order a new screen and then redo all the firmware on the machine just incase anything else got screwed up. Thank you again for all your help greatly appreciated

This is the main reason I nonly update LCDC firmware when it is to correct a known problem with the current firmware.

And I always do it as the last module, always on its own.

Do we talking about the firmware "open panel"??
Always wonder what this one do?
It take a lot of time to upgrade open panel and you haft to restart the machine and reinstall the swedish language (older mpc 4000)

I have never had any problems with upgrading firmware, I probably do it on about 75% of the calls I go to (as hardly anyone else in my team seems to know how to do it), I select all relevant files at once and let the machine do it's thing, the LCDC is always the last one that the machines uploads, you can tell when this is loading as the light flashes on the start button a lot quicker, then power off once the display shows update complete. I know I'm probably sad, but I'm looking forward to my first play with the new Package firmware
