    MP5500 Fuser

    Hi All y'all,

I bought a new fuser for a 5500. Brand new. The old fuser was making dark, normal, looking blacks. On the new one the blacks look a bit faded, like the machine wants a dev change. Also the new fuser has broken its fuser gear twice in the last 10 months.

This account makes maybe 90K a year.

The web was almost up and there was a line starting on the upper fuser roller. There was a fuser on ebay for $250 so that's why. I'm lazy

Hello, did you check the nip of the fuser? NIP is the contact between the Hotroller and Pressure roller. probeably is't to thight thats why the gear broke. and chanching the web is much cheaper. fuser is almost lifetime ( 9 milj.)

Is that something you adjust via springs? I'll check the manual when I get back to the office.

All i got from the that was Problem Fuser from Ebay. Like Debs said it probably needs adjustment for your machine who knows where it came from or what was wrong with it before hand. If you still have the original fuser couldn't you just transfer the web over to it, even if the hot roller had a line starting i have seen everything from lines to gunk to coating peeling right off and still fusing normally looks can be deceiving sometimes.

Just to make sure you got the right fuser too, im pretty sure the MP6000 fusers will fit in the machine and look the same but they only have 2 heating lamps instead of 3. I would think if it was wrong you would get an sc code but hey easy to check.

not sure for europe but here in ny i dont remember any adjustment for pressure outside of the option of
which hole the spring goes to on the lower roller lift arm..i leave them on outside spring..blown fuser gears are
for me a result of bad lower pressure roller bearings..
you got ck them when hot as it doesnt always show
                      "cold"

Fusing pressure is done with the two springs. If you want to adjust, use the NIP band adjustment in the service manual. The springs themselves will over time weaken. You might get better results by replacing them.
