    MP 6001 hard drive

    hi.
i just picked up a lease return savin 9060 wth 60k
    that was coding out sc860,870.
after powering it up i tried to format hard drive but failed and
i decided to pull the hard drive but found out someone had taken it out..GONE!!!
not sure if was a tech or customer worried about security on drive.
i assume the drive is a SATA hd.
can i just use a laptop sata drive? 120gig?
what size and any steps i might not have thought out?

    thnx

Thinking about most of the SATA drives that I have seen in Ricohs, they are laptop drives. Usually at least 80G.

Any old full size SATA will do the job. try to get the smallest memory size you can find, it should be around 160G if my memory serves me correctly. Remember to format it on your PC first.

any sata drive should work. The machine should auto format a new drive when it powers up, or you can use sp5832-1. Ricoh claims useing bigger than stock drives puts excessive loads on the electronics over time and can cause board failures....Never had it happen......................

Ricoh also recommend that you buy their genuine one at 5 times the price that we buy identical HHDs from the local computer shop. Rip off merchants.

Buy the aftermarket drive and save some bucks. The only problem I see that you may have is: Did they leave the mounting bracket for the drive?? Just install the new drive and let the machine format it, or run sp 5832 if it codes. The machine WILL NOT recognize Fat32 or NTFS partions. As for the

6000 I'd have to look at one or go to the parts manual. someone here will know off the top of their head.

160GB SATA 3,5 inch will do, a assume that a laptop HDD is more expensive.

I replaced this hard drive last month so it's fresh on my mind. We had a doc feeder memory storage issue and decided to replace the HDD.

our model had one 160GB Sata HDD installed, we fitted a Western Digital 250GB Sata HDD with a 160GB partition, worked fine with a straight swap!!!!

I don't know if whoever removed your HDD left the mounting bracket but you'll need that.

                          hope I helped

                          Peace

Edit: didn't see your issue has solved. but good idea not to go for seagate, I've had a world of problems with them.

i have yet to unwrap the machine as it sat on my pickup outside and was a toasty 10 degrees overnight.
dropped the machine off today and will get it done next week pending "another snow storm"...
could never leave in ALASKA..........im not planning on partitioning drive as i think 250gig is not that much bigger than the STOCK OEM 160 gig..
