    MP 2000L2 SC 120

    Its not often we have to ask for help but this one has us stumped, in fact its rather embarrassing having to ask for help with a half pint B&W!

    The problem
    SC 120 The scanner home position sensor does not detect the off condition during initialization or copying.
    However this only happens when you scan off the platen glass but doesn't do it when photocopying off the glass.

    The Attempted Fix
    So far we have adjusted the scanner position and the tension on the scanner drive belt several times. We have also replaced the following parts;
    Scanner motor, home position sensor, BICU, controller board and the SBU / lens block assembly and still no luck.

    The only thing we can think of is that it uses a different DPI scanning to photocpying.

    Any suggestions are more than welcome, just remember it only happens when scanning off the glass but not when photocopying or faxing.

    You could try different scan resolution settings to verify your suspicions. I think that copy resolution is 600x600. Most scanning is 200 or 300. Also check your SMC non-default if available or SP mode data for any changed settings that have to do with stepper motor speeds.

      Thanks Slimslob, I've sent a tech out to try that. I'll let you know the results.

        Could also be a bad harness of the scanner motor or home positioning sensor.
