Aficio 3045 low density area trail edge of everything printed or copied

When I first looked at this machine it was 30k past a PM. So I did the PM. I replaced the drum & blade, charge roller
and blade, transfer belt and blade and developer mix. Vacuum out loose toner and clean.
I carefully followed the directions in the book and covered the dev openning
when I ran the dev initialization, and other programs. Also the seals around the developer ports and on the toner
bottle holder have been replaced. There was a lot of toner dusting from this that was getting on the laser glass.
I thought that would have taken care of the problem but nope. It did stop the dusting though.
With the amount of dusting I am wondering if the last mirror in the laser assembly could be dirty?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Check the top cover of the developer unit and make sure the mylars haven't been deformed. If I recall, there was an issue where the top cover for this model was modded to prevent the mylars from giving partially light output.

Removing the laser and cleaning all mirrors/reflectors would definitely be the next step for me.

If it was toner in the laser housing, the light area would be along the direction of paper travel, not the trail edge. Avoid opening the laser housing as you can let in more dust than you are removing. Clean any spewed toner before removing the laser shield glass for cleaning. I agree that it has something to do with the development unit. Check the gears on the development roller assembly. If they are worn, toner in the developer on the development roller could be getting depleted and then getting enough revolutions to be replenished between copies.

Swaping toner hooper may or may not solve your problem,in more than one ocasion it was the sponge on PCU entrance for toner on it's way to developing assy.
When I saw PCU without that sponge I vacumed ewerything and let them test it on about 100 prints...what ewer they needed at that point...one can't imagine how much toner goes out of there.
Then I improvised some sort of sponge filling on it and we ran another 100 prints and it was clean, hope this helps.
Gears, springs, clutches, sliders, connectors and electronics...who on earth can tell what's wrong with it?

Thank you all for your help,

As I think about it the low density does follow the paper feed. I will check the
developer unit mylars and gears as well. I've had to many calls on this unit already.

The tank, I assume, is the developer unit?

Since replacing the seals on the dv and replen units the dusting has stopped.
I'm leaning toward the laser unit, but will double check the items mentioned.

Thanks again for the good advice

Herostrat, every bit of info helps. I did the same thing to stop the dusting mess. Replaced the seals.

                  Thanks
