hi, as far as i can see from the parts catalogue it is only available as a unit which is called a ' 1st scanner unit' and the part numbers are as follows for the two versions: A298 1700 ( 120V ) AND A298 1701 ( 230 V). hope this helps, Dan

That's probably why I can't find the part number !

But would AX520024 do the job ? It's rated at 180v 280w, only 20w more.

If the length is the same and the terminals are the same and if the shunts are in the same place, I think you could adjust the lamp voltage in sim mode to accommodate the extra 20W.

I think there is a maximum lamp voltage which can be set on that unit. (Not 100% sure since I don't have a manual on that one, but similar models do.)
If so, remember Power=Current x Voltage, therefore if you can't adjust the voltage high enough, it will draw extra current to maintain its power output, which may overload the power supply.

Yes thermal fuse is Ok, lamp is deffinately dead. I tried Katun here in france but they would only sell to a buisness {not me !} . I am presantly waiting {could be a long wait, nothing is urgent in france !} for a reply from Ushio france. Ushio being the manufactuer name on the lamp.
Why do Ricoh only sell the scanner unit and not the lamp ?

I've substituted lamps many times. On machines this old the lamp intensity will not create an error code. So what really comes down to is the length of the lamp, volts and watts. If the lamp is within 2mm either way you should be able to make it work. The voltage is less critical since most lamps run at ~60 to 80 VAC. And the wattage is close enough.

In my humble opinion there is no risk to the lamp regulator or power supply. I'd give it a try.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Reply to msg 9. $5 dollers more ? 185 euros for scanner unit or 20 euros for a lamp !
Still waiting to here from Ushio............................
It's not really that urgent, just means that I have a 30km round trip to the copy shop ,which is not too bad as there's a really good bar on the return trip !
