    Its mentioned on the diagnostic page, some of the smaller Ricoh kit is re badaged so might use another operating system.

        PA: from everything you've said it seems like you don't have a very strong grounding in Unix, which is going to be necessary in order to even attempt what you're looking to do. The short answer for you is you won't be able to get access to the base file system, or get any kind of access to the embedded OS at the kernel level.

        Ricoh uses a proprietary version of a publicly available operating system that they have paid licensing fees for in order to build their custom version. It is a secure system, and attempting to alter or in any way recompile their OS may open you up to penalties from Ricoh for intellectual property theft.

        Just something to consider...

          I hear that Konica's can email the counter. Ricoh chose not to offer this, I guess.
