    cs5501i

    I have replaced the feed rolls and then the feed units to try and get this machine to quit stashing paper behind the cassette. What could be causing this? The event log only shows that paper didnt arrive at different places. But nothing to indicate why. Any ideas?

      Stack of paper not being raised up far enough for the PU roller to get a good bite on it?
      At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.

          The MFP doesn't stash the paper behind the cassette, the enduser does. I try to train all my endusers this very basic thing: When the jam removal prompts tell you to open the cassette, always open the lower side door first and remove any paper.

          Either the enduser is not reading the jam removal prompts, or the prompts are in the wrong order. Either way, if a piece of paper is halfway in between the tray and vertical path and the tray is pulled open first, the vertical path will hold the paper in place above the tray. The enduser sees no paper ... and closes the tray, smashing the paper behind, usually into the lift coupler or the tray's modular connector. If the enduser opens the lower side door first, they can remove the paper. End of story. No service call.

          Personally I think it's about endusers not reading the jam prompts, but it softens the tone of the conversation if you can blame the stupid machine for not prompting them correctly. If your enduser does start to read the prompts I believe they will discover that it their own fault. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                  From what I've seen, paper behind the trays is usually due the the users loading too much paper into the tray. Make sure they know how much paper can actually be loaded into the tray.
                  To a lesser extent, is the paper they are using in good shape? If it is too wavy it can cause paper to fall behind the trays sometimes.
