ricoh mpc 4500 k bad copy

MPC4500 client called with bad grey copies, it looked a lot like bad drum blade or charge roller, actually i could see the charge roller pattern in the backgrounding, so I changed the PCU cus the k was due anyway
client just called back after coping all day and the problem is back?? Not in the print, just the copy and only on BnK copy color copy is fine??
    any suggestions?

Check the laser glass to make sure it is clean. Clean the id sensors just above the k drum. Check your k dev counter to make sure it is not due to be replaced and can also check the mag roller to see if its cooked. These are the things I would check, however I would guess these would all affect both copy and print. If it is copy only I would go after the optics. Clean the slit and exposure glass, also clean the mirrors under the glass. You mentioned that it took all day for the customer to call in and say the issue was back so maybe it is on both copy and print but it takes a lot of pages before the issue appears. Good luck.

Any chance you could provide a picture of the print defect? Maybe also a print versus copy comparison?
I've got several suggestions for this, but I can't see the problem, and as such my suggestions might all be stupid wastes of time.
      Thanks.

        How old is the machine?
        OEM toner?
Have a look at the customers copy original is it thin density or carbon blue paper?
Sounds like it might be getting washed out during the scan?

After cleaning the mirrors, cycle power to reset the white reference. If that improves the black but it is still a little light, run Auto Color Calibration from User Tools - Maintenance. I just had this on a MP C4000 today.

I understand this is some sort of grey background? Funny - one might check if the customer did a proper diagnostic, perhaps it's just slighter issues with printing. If it's really just in copy mode still must see the side/leading/trailing erase margin. In case the issue is within the margin your error must be within the PCU/engine area.

In case it's really just visible in copy mode and the optics is clean it's possible that someone messed with the scanner SPs. Compare the values with that factory sheet.
