I've recently had a couple of Ricoh 2022's overtone on me just after replacing the PCU. And I'm using new OEM pcu's. There is a mound of toner towards the front of the cavity where the pcu slides in. When I replace the pcu, I just pull all the strips, slide the pcu in, turn the machine on, let it run and it resets the counter. Not sure what is causing this problem. I've never had to run developer initialization before. This is a head scratcher. Any thoughts or advice on what to look for from anyone out there would be great. Thanks.

Re: Ricoh 2022 overtoning
Try the following, there are two plastic strips that pull out from the front of the PCU after it is installed. Only pull the long one, the one toward the right side of the machine. Leave the one closest to the toner tray until after the machine has been turned on and finished initializing. this prevents toner from dropping into the developer from the toner tray and raising the toner level before developer initialization. Be sure to pull it out before you leave or you will be back the next day when the machine keeps asking for a new toner bottle (voice of experience). -
Re: Ricoh 2022 overtoning
If that's the case, it's not a matter of overtoning, just that the seals on the hopper assembly are failing, as is quite common on all these type machines.
As the bottle turns to add toner it pushes leaked toner over the edge and onto the PCU, etc.
Replace the hopper assy
(If I'm misunderstanding you, and the bottle is not covered in toner, then disregard everything I've just said)

Re: Ricoh 2022 overtoning
I'll try that the next time I replace the PCU. Never had to do that before. I always just pulled both strips. I guess force of habit. But it does make sense. And I also think on one of the machines the toner hopper is leaking toner so I'm going to replace the hopper. Thanks for both the suggestions. Very helpful!Comment
