The machine (MP 2852sp) hangs only when printing PDF. I reformatted the HDD, reinstalled the printer driver and performed cold reset but still same problem.Firmware update is not yet done because I do not have access to my-ricoh.com. I have to ask my technical manager to provide me firmware for the machine. Any solution other than firmware update?

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
Lots of things can cause issues with PDF printing. You haven't specified if it is happening with all PDF's or just one particular file. You can try saving the file locally incase it is corrupt. You can try printing from Foxit reader, you can try print as image in advanced options. You could update/reinstall adobe reader. -
Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
Adobe tends to be unstable occasionally so printing from different PDF readers can some times fix the problem as stated above, how big is the PDF, or is it just all PDF's?
Try chucking one on a USB and try to print direct.

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
Rather than reinstall the driver, remove it completely (using the printui application) and install the other version of it eg. If you are using the PCL6 driver, swap to the PCL5 driver and visa versa. Like a broken record, change the PDF reader. Adobe reader is the root of all evil... EVIL!Comment

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
PDF is a PITA!
WHY???
If the person who compiled the PDF didn't FLATTEN THE LAYERS within the pages, then you can have all kinds of problems such as color space. CMYK pictures and RGB pictures in the same pdf document can sometimes cause problems and cause it to hang or memory overflow on output. Sometimes NOT FLATTENING LAYERS can cause item positional/placement issues, so flattening locks everything down to a single layer for output.
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
The MP 2852 does have print from memory device capability. Try copying the file to a memory device, USB thumb drive or SD card, and print from that. One other thing to try is to print to the document server, File - Print - Properties - Job Type.Comment

I forget to tell you that the machine shows error SC 899. It shows one time only. Could it be firmware issue or is it the outdated Adobe Reader that causes the error SC 899?
I thank you all for the ideas that you shared with me.Comment

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
Latest PCL firmware is Special/Custom version 1.03.1. All updates to PCL firmware has been to correct problems with printing certain scalable True type fonts.
As a work around, use the PCL 5e driver. In Printing Preferences - Print Quality change True Type mode to download as bit image. True Type does not appear to be available in the PCL 6 driver. I have checked this by downloading and installing the drivers to my Win8 64 laptop at home.Comment

As a work around to changing settings in the print driver, and changing Adobe settings, you could ask your technical manager to get you the up to date firmware.Comment

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
As Gift suggested. Try print as image in advanced print dialog. This will get rid off of all postscript. When successful then play with Post Script options but primarily layers causing most of the issues.

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
There is firmware on the TSRC site just for 899 codes, have your manager get it for you, it is separate from the normal firmware, it is under custom firmware and be sure to get the one for SD not remote.Comment

That custom firmware, PCL_LR0005_v1.03.1 dated 5/27/2014, was temporary. It has been replaced by production firmware PCL v1.04 dated 10/29/2014.Comment

Re: Machine stalled when printing PDF file (MP 2852)
What operating system and driver are you using? If it's Windows 8/10, do not use the 'Ricoh Class Driver' it trys to install by default. I've run into this a few times lately. Word docs are fine, PDF's will take hours/days to print if at all.Comment
