    c4000 ignores card stock setting

or any setting for paper thickness. It just shoots them out at the same speed, even from the bypass. The only way I've been able to get it to work is by selecting 1200dpi. That slows the printer down long enough for the fuser to do its job. I've tried on PCL5, PCL6, and RPCS (on windows 7). Also tried two different computers the other was windows 8.1 .

How do you mean? This is for printing not copying.

Yes, I know that but that's not the problem that I'm seeing. It's that even from the bypass, when specifying card stock, the toner isn't being fused.

...Did you choose the proper thick settings for the cardstock???

            Choice of:

            -Middle Thick
            -Thick 1
            -Thick 2
            -Thick 3

            ???

Yes and even bumped up the fuser temperature for thick 3 to see if would make any difference.

Edit: This is on later model machines, but on the C4000 I think it's called 'Bypass tray setting priority' - I have left the info below as is.

Check User tools > Printer Settings > System tab > Tray setting priority. You want 'Driver/Command' for the bypass tray.

It might be on 'Machine settings' which will ignore driver selection. Also turn off 'Auto Continue' which will reveal any paper type mismatching that is going on.

I usually set "Driver/Command" for all paper trays.

Re: c4000 ignores card stock setting

So I have upgraded the firmware. Still does the same thing. Just pulls the paper in from the bypass and spits it out at normal speed. I have just tried the Universal Print Driver, as I had not tried that, same result.

When I COPY to the bypass and tell the machine via # that there is cardstock there, it works as expected. Slowly coming through the machine.

Is there a way to factory reset the print functions? I'll go check SPs now...

Have you tried making the setting that SargeNZ mentioned. That is the only that the machine will know the type of paper when you are printing. Once you have made that setting at the machine, experiment with the paper type setting in the Printing Preferences.to see which works better: Card Stock, Thick 1, Thick 2 or Thick 3.

Re: c4000 ignores card stock setting

Okay, I've reset the printer settings via SP 58somethingorother. Interestingly the paper now comes out to the lower finisher tray on both cardstock and thick2.

Now cardstock goes through at normal speed, same as before, BUT thick2 goes slow as expected. So fixed? idk...

If I send a cardstock job to the copier without specifying the bypass, the printer light comes on. Great, as expected. BUT if I manually tell it to use a different paper tray (on the copier display) it will happily do it so at NORMAL speed. If I had printed in full color this would have resulted in a fuser jam. Why would the copier let me do that?

                        So I guess its fixed-ish.

                          Yes it was set correctly.

Make it simple, forget the 'cardstock' label and just set the tray to 'thick 1,2 or 3' and make the corresponding setting in the driver to match.

When you select a tray on the printer screen after getting a paper type mismatch, it uses the paper type as specified in the machine settings for that tray, which would explain why it's going through on plain settings. These machines do exactly what you tell them, sometimes the hard part is knowing how to tell it exactly what to do.
