Is this an official bulletin? Never heard of it and I can't recall ran into any issues because we yousually update the machines during installation before performing ACC/misc. settings

Most RTBs are sent out to branches only. Those of us with dealers never see them unless someone posts them here.

I have seen that too, but, to be honest, I just do firmware the way I always have done, I have no idea why these instructions have been given either

The only thing I can think of would to have valid quality configuration to start with. I have been to a couple of calls lately for light copies and print and found that ACC had never been ran. After cleaning the laser shield glasses and running ACC, color quality was where it should be.

The following has been added to the latest firmware history bulletin dated 12-17-2014 for the engine firmware:
                    At installation (new machine)
After power on machine, perform ACC adjustment first before updating the Engine firmware if needed.
At PCDU and/or Development Unit Replacement (for any color)
After power on machine, perform ACC adjustment first before updating the Engine firmware if needed.
Please keep in mind both above cases:
                    1) During the firmware update; do not open or close the Front Cover.
                    2) Do not press the Engine Firmware Update Start Button for 3 seconds after it displays on the panel
                    (See below)

It appears that they want ACC to be ran before updating engine firmware when there is a new development unit in the machine.

I tried today to upgrade an MP- C2003SP to the latest fmw.
No problem with Engine fmw, but could not load the System/Copy fmw.
By pressing the 'Update" button after 3 seconds : two beeps and then nothing.
So, i quit procedure...looking for troubles to the next customer!!!

A lot of the time you get the beeps when you attempt to update, persevere with it, it does eventually start the update. I think it won't start until Java is fully booted as I've noticed this delay only seems to appear on machines where Java is started. You'll find a similar problem if you enter sp mode straight after machine comes to ready, it won't enter system sp straight away. Patience is required with these machines.

Back when the JAVA SD card had to be in the slot used for firmware updates, I got in the habit of stopping JAVA before shutting down to start an update. I still stop it even if I do not need to remove the JAVA SD card.

ACC is Auto Color Calibration. User Tools - Maintenance - Auto Color Calibration. Run Copy calibration first, then run all Printer calibrations. It prints a color gray scale which is then place on the platen glass and scanned, Ricoh recommends placing ten sheets of white paper on top before scanning. The scanned results are then compared to the expected results and the scanner gamma settings are adjusted as needed for the Copy calibration and printer processing is adjusted for the Printer calibration. This is to ensure optimum image quality. If it has never been ran, you are most likely getting calls for light copies and prints.
