Re: Aficio MP 9000 HDD replacement

I know that the Aficio 2238C used a two drive setup that had to be replaced as a pair. I had a drive go out on one. I had two identical make and model drives in my old PC drive stack. They both tested good on a PC and the bad drive was also bad on the PC. They still would not work in the 2238C. We were able to purchase a used set of good drives from a parts salvage supplier for much less than Ricoh wanted for new ones.

1600 euros for two obsolete drives is a crime!

Hey, good idea, cloning may work. Maybe the machine doesn't like the 250 gig drives, do you have any smaller ones to try? What file format did you use to format them? If memory serves me, I think I use NTFS. This should work, I have used whatever I've had around to put in other Ricoh models that also use two drives, I've never had a problem.

You would need something like the old DOS level Norton Utilities that allows you do an absolute sector copy.

The problem is on dual disc machines... On the aficio 2075 even a 250gb works.... But i'll try to make two partitions and we will see

Its been a while since i've done this but i'm pretty sure you have to replace both drives at the same time with similar size as there is a maximum the device will recognise.

All you should need to do is format the drives in a PC first but then delete the volume it creates. After that install back in the machine and it should take care of the rest when powered on. If not run SP 5832

Sorry if im going over old ground Codex but did you delete the volume after formatting as if you dont the device will struggle to create its own partitions, also 250gb might be too much for the device I would try get hold of some 160's

Cloning another machines HDD's unfortunately won't help this will more than likely give you an error due to information with the devices serial number written to them..
