Because the plastic hold down bar holds the glass down slightly as compared to when it is removed.

What i mean is if the glass is not sitting square on the scanner frame, the glass (if tapped_ will make a clear "ping" sound, as it will resonate because it is not supported on all sides by the scanner.

If it is sitting square on the scanner, the rubber supports will make the "ping" sound dull.

The glass never touches the scanner lamp, as there is a clearance between the glass and the scanner lamp so that it can pass under the glass as it scans the document on the glass. If it is touching, something is seriously wrong.

Most of the range do come with a plastic bar that supports the scanner during transit, however this is usually removed as it can cause problems for larger paper sizes. For the newest rnage it is placed inside the front door to cover the factory defaults sheet.

The exposure lamp is curved from the middle, i removed the glass and left the plastic bar, then i turned off the machine, when the scanner started to move to home position, it kicked the plastic bar off., i looked at the exposure lamp to find it curved up from the middle, couldn't find a way to straighten it, any ideas

          Thanks again

Could you possibly post photos of this curved scanner lamp?

When Ricoh machines come out of the box, they have a bracket between the receiving tray and the scanner. That is to protect the scanner for bending. Here in Belgium (yes, Belgium still exists!), Ricoh remove this so important bracket. It is not possible to order it afterwards, so now all our machines have skewed copys, that is a big problem. I have had 3 (!) good working mp2000 "per total" by simply adjust the scanner in good position. The machines broke after this adjustment and now give al kind of codes now... Anyone a solution, i would be gratefull.

Can you post some of the codes?

                  Polarbear,
It was about half year ago, they gave all kind of SC codes... What i mean with "a solution" it is for the missing bracket which is not available here in Belgium... Thank you for replying anyway!
