No. Register the defaults settings only stores user settings. You have to change the Scan Settings in the scan function screen then register the defaults. It is all operator functions.

Hehe i got lost when i thought he was trying to make a color copy on a B&W machine and wondering why the background had no color.

I wrote color original not color copy
Background colors aren't converted to gray scale
That is I mean
We can say copier does not see colors

You used copying color-originals in your title. It should have been scanning color-original to have avoided misunderstanding.
