    Ricoh 2550 Scan to Folder

I have a Ricoh 2550 and 2500. I have previously had the firmware updated to scan to win 8.1 machines.

I am set to scan to two different Win 8.1 machines. A Dell M6700 and a Dell Precision T7910.

I can scan to folder to the M6700 no problem.

The T7910 is another story. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I think it worked fine a few months ago, but I am not sure (did not scan a lot to it). Now most the time does not work. If I reboot the 7910, it seems to work for a scan, then every other scan fails. I have tried doing different mapped drives and setting different permissions, etc... At one point I thought it was because I signed in with a pin instead of the password since on the M6700 I do not use a pin. So I signed in with the password and it worked for a hour. Did a bunch of scans it was fine. Then an hour later, I went to try it and it failed. I then logged out of the 7910 and logged back in. A scan worked. But then on another scan right after it failed.

Looking at he mapped drive from another computer is not an issue. It is just the Ricoh machines.

I am just out of ideas.

I did try FTP with a trial of bulletproof FTP and that works fine, but I'd rather not buy it and then run an ftp server.

    Any ideas?

There are plenty of free FTP servers, FileZilla is one example and it supports 8.1.

thanks for the reply. Any idea why the scan to folder would not work? I looked at FileZilla but all links and reading their forums seem that any download of it comes with malware.

You must not be going to the official FileaZilla site: https://filezilla-project.org/. I would avoid downloading anything from CNET. They used to be a dependable source but have become a target for hackers and you can never be sure if they are currently secure or not.

Either that or your security software needs to be updated.

thanks. Went there and it links to sourceforge downloads.

Not to get sidetracked with the FTP, I still want to get the SMB working. I keep beating my head and cannot get it to constantly work to the the 7910. It works fine to the m6700 so I think it has to be a setting on the 7910. I also tried to turn of windows firewall too and still errors.

If I try to find the drives from the 2550, it says path cannot be found most the time. Again sometimes the scan works like after a reboot of the 7910..

Most likely a security issue, does the copier give an error when scanning? E.g. authentication failed or unable to connect to server. Or, does it just hang for awhile and timeout?

Sometimes there is an issue with scanning to a username that is virtual, and not local. Try making a new user just for the copier, make sure it is local only, and give it full rights to the folder. At least then you can rule out authentication issues just to be sure. Are they running any third party AV or Firewall?

After a scan, it notes just waiting. If I go back, I think it notes unable to connect or cannot find server.

I just added a local user and tried that and still no luck.

I have readh there could be an issue with IRPStackSize and wonder if I should try changing that.

Go into User Tools - System Settings - Interface and click on the print settings button at the top right. The last page of the print is a communication log. Check for entries for SMB. Search the error code.

Re: Ricoh 2550 Scan to Folder

Not all Windows 8.1 are the same. I have seen posts that claim 8.1 is supposed be fully backwards compatible with SMB 2 and older MFP do not require firmware upgrades. As yet I have not encountered any computers for which this is true, but apparently some have. It is possible that on computer is fully backward compatible and the other is not. Check the level of you Network Support Firmware. If it is not D0395522_LRC0451, you need to update the firmware, especially if the error line in the communication log is "Unable to write file". From the text file included with the firmware download:
The following SMB-based GW functions will work with Windows 8 and Windows
                  Server 2012 with this firmware.

                  - Scan to SMB
                  - Fax Folder Transmission (SMB only)
                  - Fax Forwarding (SMB only)

                  Cause:
                  MS specification change.
An option setting included in the "SMB_COM_WRITE_ANDX" and "SMB_COM_READ_ANDX"
                  commands needs to be changed.

At the bottom there are several entries that say"

                    Failed to connect
                    Failed to disconnect
                    Failed to get shared list

repeats many of the above but not in the same order (sometimes the same one repeats).

I went ahead edited the registry and set the DWord for IRPStackSize per this:

Solved Network shares other than Public inaccessible Win8.1

I set it to 31 like the user did in the above.

I scanned around 10 times over the last 20 minutes and is working. Hopefully that is it. I will continue scanning to see if it times out.

well just tried again and it failed. After scanning, just says waiting under scan file status.

ok. I have a service contract and will need to call Ricoh since I do not have access to that.
