It almost sounds like you have a flaky power switch, either sub or main. I'd lean towards the main power switch on the left. Yeah, even though the lights are the way they are, with the one blinking and the other one not, power/door switches do some very weird things on these Ricoh's.

Have you swapped out the main switch yet, just for S&G? The other things I'm thinking of is maybe the HDD is acting weird (which causes similar symptoms on other manufacturers) or at least reflash the firmware.

With the machine acting like this, it might end up corrupting the firmware.

      Hi
I heard of 3 possible causes for this.
      1. There was a bulletin in UK for this problem but cant find it.
It comprised of 2 resistors 150 ohm and 200 ohm. These should be fitted to the PSU and replace R19 and R20.
      2. Try removing the finisher if it has one and test the copier, ours had a faulty sensor in it causing it to cut power.
      3. There was also a short on the LCT tray wiring.
If not these then I would guess it sounds like a faulty clutch or solenoid in the feed/reg area.

By the way these were on different machines - not some horror machine from hell!

Seems to me I recall this being a bad PSU typically, but in one instance I found that the HDD was crashing causing a spontaneous reboot of the machine. Also, check to make sure you've enough power on the outlet give or take 10% and that it's a dedicated line. Might be you have some other equipment on the circuit and the copier gets low power. Ever notice someone using a shredder/microwave/etc., etc., when the machine dies? Also, on a different model we had a customer with a softdrink dispensing machine in a room adjacent to the copier room that when its compressor kicked in the copier would throw fuser codes......Short story----Update firmware (hoping the machine doesn't crash in the middle of it), check the power outlet and the circuit the machines on for adequate power, check the HDD and finally check the PSU.

This is a reported problem. It is either a pc of paper stuck behind the paper tray or a defective PF board

The bulletin I was talking about was one showed to me by an NRG engineer and was issued internally by NRG in the Uk.
Basically it said what I posted to replace the resistors - no pretty pics or anything!

I've had something similar on a small 1018d machine once upon a time, it was as simple as the wall plug being faulty/broken (Except this customer had been tugging on the power cable so much the LIVE was loose). Probably not the solution but thought I'd put it out there, seeing as it hasn't been mentioned.

IIRC the machine would randomly reboot if the customer hit "Yes, HIT" the Green copy button.

correction of the previos post: despite of the change of PSU, the error is back again

                          Af550 inttermittantly powering off

i had had this fault on a couple of different machines with two different
                          solutions.
one was the tandem tray solinoid wire (behind the gray cover on the right hand side of the tandem) was going down to ground.
and the other was the finisher, im afraid i couldnt trace the fault i just service exchanged the finisher.

                            Found it!!!

Moving the SBICU board moved the symptom. (And it's not the EPROM, so I don't have to mess with that.)

Does anyone know a good source for a replacement board besides Precision Roller?

More later, and thank you all for your suggestions.
