    Ricoh 907

    ... well actually it's the re-badge: Toshiba eStudio 905. I get a trio of error codes all with the same copy count. In this order SC300, SC586, SC400. The pages left in the machine are mostly black with toner worms, so I'm basically convinced that it's primary charge related. The machine will do 5K to 10K between occurrences.

    The primary and pre-charge have been re-strung multiple times, and replaced as assemblies. My co-worker tells me these codes can result from the traditional toner dumping we see toward PM time. Is this BS, or is there some truth to this? I have the order placed for the HVT. =^..^=

      See the attached bulletin for a common cause of SC 300. If the original style pump is still in the machine, you may have to replace toner pump. I have even had the new style leak after a few million pages. Compare the top of the DVU/toner hopper to the photos. With a bad pump, you will also have a lot of toner blown onto the back end of the PCU and the coronas. Also check the back of the machine around the HVPS for scattered toner as it can take down the HVPS.

      SC 400 is most like scattered toner on the ID sensor. If the development unit has a large number of pages, 5M or more, you might want to replace the seals. If there are over 3M on the collection bottle and the vacuum pump, replace them.

      SC 586 is a dirty CIS on the LCIT. CIS is used to determine the front side edge of each sheet paper coming out of the tray in order to maintain side to side registration. It gets a build up of paper dust and you get the SC listed in history.

          So if I remove the imaging drawer, I should be able to see this oriface from the inside of the frame? Or do I have to do the total disassembly to diagnose it?

          The machine has 3M prints, so from your comments it's a good bet that it will need a toner pump by now regardless. Also it's due for the PM. Since it's blowing toner all over, I would assume that it would be preferable to do this during or before the PM.

          Where is this CIS you speak of? It seems like a strange place to put a CIS in the LCIT. It seems odd that that particular code is in the trio, unless the high voltage is triggering multiple (sometimes unrelated) codes.

              BC if you remove the lcit or lct which ever one you have, and then remove the RH end covers of the machine you will be able to see the toner pump/ When looking at the RH side from the RH end the pump will be in the upper RH side view about where the rear of the toner hopper will be. Before I would replace the pump for blowing toner I would make sure I did not have a blocked toner tube somewhere. Check ALL the black rubber hoses for blockage....... I don't usually change toner pumps for blowing toner....... I can provide more help if you need to replace the pump also....

              As for the sc 586 and the cis it's in the exit guide of the lcit/lct. when it is away from the machine it's easily seen. There is a calibration for it in the Ricoh manual. If you need it PM me..

                  Actually there are three of them. One for the main trays, one for the LCIT and one for the duplex unit. The codes are usually not displayed to the user as the last valid read of the paper edge is used for the selected paper size. They are easy to clean with the exception of the duplex one which requires removing the registration unit to get at. I usually just blown it out with canned air. Let tonerbomb or me know if you need documentation.

                      I've got the Toshiba manual, only 1300 pages to my surprise. Most manuals exceed 2K pages lately.

                      The only complication is that we do not have a whole lot of communication between techs at our office. The only way to find out what's been done and by whom, is to look into OMD history, and hope the predecessors took the time to note what they did.

                      One of my pet peeves is when counters get reset every visit, regardless of if any work was done. Or the opposite: counters read 3M on all the consumables, and I know they must have been replaced at least 5 times without a counter reset. To my thinking, the only time to reset a counter is when you've actually done the work. Silly me. =^..^=

                          I have noticed that there is a bug in the firmware concerning the PM counters. If you reset the fusing unit cleaning unit PM counter in the PM Counter option on the main SP menu, it will also reset the PM counters for the Toner Suction Bottle and the Toner Suction Motor. I have emailed tech support about this but even after updating the firmware I still see the problem. I have therefore resorted to replacing them both at 2.5M when the drum is replaced. There also operation time counters in the copy SP section SP 2972 and SP 2973. SP 2950 determines how many copies can be made after these counters reach their limit. If you reset the PM counters in the PM counter section you also have to 0 the operation time counters.
