    Ricoh Pro 1107 service mode

I have two of these pieces that both are showing SC142. I have replaced the BICU and immediately get SC995-01. But when I try to go into the service mode to enter the correct serial numbers, it does not go to SM.
To make certain I am doing it correctly, could one of you folks verify the process of accessing the SM? Thanks.
These machines are in a prison that when they have power failures power comes from onsite generation. Additionally neither have been surge protected. Am I chasing the wind on these?

You can't program serial #'s in service mode, you have to be in factory mode to do that. If you search the Ricoh forums you should be able to find out how to access factory mode. As for your power issue's, Put a good quality surge/power filter on these machines.............

I would put an Innovolt Power Manager on it, our brain washers at our company told us those are the best units available.

Why did you replace the BICU without trying all the other possible causes?

        From Goose's Guide:
        SC 142
White level detection error - Check harness and connections
        SC 142
White level detection error - SBU defective
        SC 142
White level detection error - BICU defective
        SC 142
White level detection error - White plate dirty or damaged
        SC 142
White level detection error - Moisture / condensation in scanner unit

Pardon my ignorance, but how is it that you have machines in the field - particularly at the production level of these, and not even know how to access SP mode?!
I wouldn't get within 10 feet of a machine like this without access to a service manual at a bare minimum!

Some techs don't get to choose, just do it or fly... So it is scary stuff to deal with these models without proper technical skills.
Please start you post with brand, model, problem.

I understand that 'stuff' happens, and I'm just an independent tech, but this is not a simple desktop machine.
2 BICU's have already been replaced (probably needlessly), and they won't invest $10-15 for a SM??
Seems a little back-asswards to me.

You are right, 10-15$ is a minor investment put up against 2 BICU boards.

Easy guys no need to jump to conclusions. Both machines through off these codes within days of each other. Which I found puzzling. I am not just throwing parts at them willy-nilly.

I have the SM; however, the procedure for accessing the Service Mode is not clear to me. Should one of you gentlemen have the correct page number in the manual that would be great.
I have done all the other checks for SC142 (per SM).
I have not replaced the BICU on both machines (working one at a time). Since the BICU was the most expensive it was last resort .
This the process I have for accessing the service mode:

PRESS STOP(ONCE) , PRESS STOP A SECOND TIME AND HOLD IT , SERVICE MODE IS 5811 , SCROLL DOWN THIRD SERIAL # SAY NOVITA OR COUNTER , WRITE THAT NUMBER DOWN , THEN GO BACK TO THE FIRST (CALLED SET) AND SECOND(SET BICU ) , AND YOU WILL SEE SOFT KEY BOARD, ENTER YOUR NUMBER (CASE SENSITIVE) , THEN FOR SECOND AS WELL THE SECOND, THEN REBOOT.

I do not know where you got this from but it is not from the service manual. Entering service mode is the same as for mid volume and high volume copiers. Though it is not in the D059 sweries service manual, it is in the D062 series service manual. The only difference is that you use the grey (or blue) CLEAR button instead of the RED(or Orange) STOP/CLEAR.

As for accusing us jumping to conclusions, we know for a fact that you have never been to a Ricoh training class because if you had, you would not have asked how to get into service program mode. Other than splitting the function of the previous Stop/Clear button to separate Stop button and Clear button, entering SP mode has been the same for almost all model of digital MFP equipment. If you do not know it, then you are not qualified to be working Production model equipment.

Heh, I think I will be using that word you just invented if that's OK.
On a lighter note, try harder. You're better than that.

I have a used 1107 and can access the service mode but it seems to count 1 page a 2 pages when I copy onto larger papers, how can I change it so that any paper size copy is 1 increment on the counter?

Switch off A3 double count in special SP.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                            Hit it.
