Ricoh MPC4500 Magenta toner covering drum

The message on the op panel says "add magenta toner" The toner is full, open and spinning. Inspection of the drum revealed the drum is covered in toner. The drum and dev have about 10,000. Any suggestions?

Dev unit might have gone bang. Do you have another one to swap in as a test? Eliminates boards and things.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

If the drum is covered with toner it could be that the toner is wrong.
So you might need to replace the developer or the developer unit when you get compatible toner.
It also could be that the magenta drum unit was damaged. If it is possible, you might try a color drum unit from a working machine, or one you replaced that wasn't totally worn out and see what happens (no need to buy a new drum if this is wrong).

If it thinks that it needs to add toner because of a bad TD sensor, it most likely has drastically over toned the magenta development unit. Replace the DEV UNIT.

I agree with Iowatech and it seems to be a wrong toner problem

Sometimes it happens when Charge terminal in PCDU is not making proper contact with the rear side terminal or is covered with Toner.
Bad ID sensor or covered with toner.

Nine times out of ten if the toner bottle is full and the "add toner" condition still exists, the toner pump for that color needs replaced.

You have to replace the toner pump. some times it can be the sensor back the machine.

I agree with the post talking about the charge terminal with exception to it being the terminal I have had the charge roller unit pop out of its tabs and cause a no charge condition which in return will dust the drum with magenta toner on a write to black image machine.
Either way a type 811dn printer drum assy with some tweeking of the connector and front cover will fix this issue.
Or swap with a working magenta drum assy as a test if charge roller assy looks normal.
                    Hope this helped.
