    Aficio MP C2500 - Can't scan

    Hi everyone (newbie here).

    I have a Ricoh Aficio MP C2500 which worked perfectly for printing and scanning to email when connected to my TalkTalk router. I've switched to Virgin Media and have got the printing side working but for the life of me (IP address changed), I cannot get the machine to scan to email. I have ping'd the smtp server from the copier and it is successful, but when I try to send a scan, I get "connection with the destination has failed, check the status and connection. To check the........."

    Virgin Media SuperHub is cabled to TP Link TL-SF 1008D Ethernet Switch. Copier is cabled to TP Link TL-SF 1008D Ethernet Switch. TP Link TL-SF 1008D Ethernet Switch is then cabled to PC. PC is running Windows 8.1 64 bit.

    I've watched numerous videos on YouTube and have carried out every step but can't see where the scan to email is failing.

    Help greatly appreciated.

    I have the same router/super had & have no issues with scan to email over wifi, I used a gmail account thats fine & also using a virgin media email address worked fine too using the default setting etc.

    Under the SMTP address on the mfd does the connection test pass sucsessfully?

    Is the mfd set to DHCP?

      Hi Copier Tech,

      On the smtp server screen on the copier, the connection test comes back successful.
      I can't see where to check if MFD (sorry, what does MFD stand for - Multi-Function Display?) is set to DHCP.

        MFD= multi function device i.e copier/printer/scanner, your Ricoh mpc2500!

        If the connection test passes then it could be a authentication issue, there is also firmware bug fixes on this old series.

        What account are you using for SMTP?

          using 62.254.26.219 which is smtp.virginmedia.com

            I have mine set to smtp.virginmedia.com (not the ip address) port is set to 465 SSL on & then authentication is the full email yourname@virginmedia.com & the password
            The super hub has a built in firewall but I didn't need to touch that.

              Just printed a configuration page from the copier and it has DHCP off!!! How can I turn it on?

                That might be why your mfd could have the wrong dns or gateway

                Turn DHCP on from system tools, interface settings, TCIP4, thats not exact but you'll find it

                You will need to change the port in the printer driver after or you wont be able to print

                  You must not be using an older Ricoh for scanning, because they don't support SSL/TLS, so if it's required by virgin media, then it won't work.
                  He'll have to setup an account with a carrier that doesn't require encryption, or perhaps use something like smtp2go as a workaround. It's free to use for up to 20 messages per day.
                  And, Yes, if the IP address has changed, then you'll have to set the proper DNS and Gateway on the machine too.

                    When I entered smtp.virginmedia.com as the value it doesn't connect. It only seems to work as an IP address (it was the same when the machine was set to TalkTalk).

                    I only scan one or two documents a day at most so smtp2go sounds like it could be for me. Can you give me more info on it / settings for it?

                      If it worked with your previous router than it should still work with the virgin router!

                        Hi Copier tech and Sandmanmac,

                        Thanks for your help - that's it all working now. I enabled DHCP and signed up to smtp2go and it now scans to email. I've changed the ip address in the printer and it prints great.
                        Funnily, I removed the smtp2go settings and re-entered my virginmedia settings and the transmission failed. There seems to be an issue with the smtp authentication I would presume.

                        Anyway, working now - if you can figure out what the potential issue is then please let me know and I'm happy to try.

                        Thanks again - been at this machine for 2 days trying to resolve!!!

                          Apologies.
                          It was an early morning and I somehow got confused and was under the impression that virgin media was the IP.
                          I'm not sure what the root of the problem may have been. Glad you got a solution worked out JM
