Ricoh MP C2800 - 5 minutes to boot

    Hi all

We have a MP C2800 that takes around 4-5 mins to boot at power up. . .

I've never had this before so I wanted to check before I did something I shouldn't!

Turn off fuser idling, make sure firmware is up to date. Run SMC non-default data and see if eveything is OK. HDD replacement has also helped me with this in the past.

quickest troubleshooting method is booting the machine up with the hard drive unplugged. If it goes back to quick boot, replace the hard drive.

Had this recently myself on an MP C5000, and updating firmware resolved it

Try stopping JAVA if it is installed. JAVA takes about 4 to 5 minutes to initialize. Until in does, you can't get into some SP and User Tools areas.

I also recently had a MPC2800 in my workshop and noticed that it booted considerably slower than for instance MPC2051.

I reformatted the hard disk and downloaded the stamp data as well as update all the firmware, but this did not make much difference, although it does not quite take 5 minutes to boot....

I wonder if it is not just that range of controller that is just slower that what we have become used to?

I think that if the machine used to have java, and it was removed, but you did not change the startup function priority in system settings to something other that java, then it takes a long time to boot.

Yes always uninstall the Apps after removing any kind of external device card reader as a machine with equitrac or similar installed will take 5 mins to boot.

I don't know how much this will help, but I have seen a few machines take far longer than expected to initialize if they are set to default to something other than copier mode. If the machine finally starts in fax or scan mode that might be the case.

That would make sense, as the OS loads the copy feature first and then Fax/scan/print. So that could happen.

                          Update:

The HDD committed suicide this morning - of course on installation at the customer

This week can only get better....

                            Thanks!

I can't seem to find anything relating to Java on this machine. . . .It does look like it had embedded software installed as it has the sticker and the button for it yet the button does nothing when pressed. . . .

If someone removed the JAVA SD card without having stopped JAVA first, the controller board might be toast.
