[Jamming] problem with Ricoh Aficio mp c2051

    Good morning !
I have a problem with my Ricoh Aficio MP C2051.

One of the two paper trays makes problem: if it is not inserted, machine correctly works (with only a drawer).
On the contrary, if both drawers are inserted, machine gives message PAPER JAM... without having done anything !!!

    Help me please !!!

You don't give a lot to go on (jam code, please) which makes you look like a machine user rather than a tech, so this might be stupid, and if so I apologize in advance.
Also, as I can't see your machine this is just a guess. So take it for what it is worth.
Still, if you haven't already done this, check that the control panel indicates the correct size and orientation of the paper that is actually in the drawer that is causing the problem. If something doesn't look right, the drawer in question is probably broken and needs to be replaced.

      Hello !

Just this morning I discovered that both drawers regularly works but they stop working when one of them is placed in the first allocation units (I've attached a pic of it...).
Whatever drawer placed in the second allocation units regularly works.

The control panel indicates, for the first allocation units and even if drawer is not included, the A4 size of the paper. (Pic too.)

Could it be a problem about a sensor ?

      have a nice day

The paper end sensor hanging above the paper in the machine, is a usual suspects here, I have to change them from time to time... they are mechanical, and get broken.

Do you have the paper trays in auto detect or did you force for A4?
If you have forced it to A4, try to put in auto detect and see what is the paper that the machine detect.
Also try to see how is the mechanic lock of the trays. Usually it is broken and the paper tray did not close properly.

Mechanic lock of the trays are good.

If I put in auto detect it detects A3 size even if there is no paper inside.
However, drawer placed in wrong allocation units rightly detects all paper sizes.

The J001 shown on the image of the jam display is a jam at power on. This means that either power has been cycled or a door has been opened and closed. The paper size shown when the paper drawer is pulled out is the last size of paper detected. My guess is you have a problem with the first paper feed drive. Most likely the spring clutch gear assembly used to drive the feed roller or the first paper feed motor.

If I can suggest, try to change paper size switch from tray 1 to tray 2 to see if there is any difference in behaviour.
I believe that there is your problem.

Hi Guys, new to this site but I have had the same problem on a device in my service area, after updating firmare and replacement of the paper end sensors we noted that if we changed the tray setting from auto detect to a fixed size the problem disappeared. Cleand the size detection sensors and problem solved. Must just ad that this device is in a extremely dusty area.

Dust gets into the sensors and acts as an insulator on the contacts.

Can I clean it in some way or it needs to be replaced ???

Done as you suggested but there is no difference in behaviour. Every tray correctly works in the second paper feed drive. Trays don't work in the first paper feed drive.

And where are the size detection sensors ?
Of course working with ONE tray dust grows...

Yes, whatever paper size in the tray allocated in the first paper feed drive gives problem.
