Samsung 6545 paper tray lifting problem

Samsung 6545 copier. When tray one tries to lift it raises for a couple seconds and then starts popping and continues to make the popping noise. Tray 2 works fine, so I inserted tray 2 into tray 1 slot to try out. It did the same, so I eliminated the tray and gears in the back of the tray as a possibility. Sounds like the tray is lifting into position but not stopping. Would it be the sensor below the paper lift motor that drives the gears on the tray, going bad? I hardly ever work on a Samsung and do not have a service manual for it. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Sounds like a broken tooth on a drive gear. You may need to replace the paper feed unit.

Make sure that the Flag for the upper limit sensor hasn't fallen off. I've had fun with those.

Flag is still there. The gears for the paper lift is on back of the tray and are good so I don't think it needs a new paper feed unit, but I don't work on Samsung that often and I'm not real familiar with them
