    ML5512ND Belts Ripping

Has anyone else had issues with the 2 transport belts shown in the picture below? These sit directly under the drum cartridge just past the transfer roller.

We've had this happen to 2 machines, one location. The belts crack and end up in the output bin with the paper. It jams more frequently obviously. Eventually the other belt will break. We've replaced the belts on one machine (not fun) and just got a call on the other machine with another broken belt. As far as i can tell the customer is not doing anything to cause these to break. These are not high volume machines. Only make about 25K/year.

I just thought I would ask to see if anyone else has seen this.

What type of environment are these machines located?

It's in a courthouse. Medium humidity. not dirty. Nothing real unusual.

Don't know why then, except for age?

Haven't seen it on that series but see it all the time on the 4551 printer (previous gen). Probably using the same part.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

Both machines were in the field for less than 6 months. just over a year from manufacture date.

Samsung warranty then... Also the whole belt assy comes out from the left side if I recall right... just 1 screw holds it in.

              Regards!

It's happened to me a couple times with fairly new machines. ok one has 43k on it. That,s not a lot.
The belts can be a pain to replace if the black plastic slide wont slide because it hits the grounding strap all located on the shaft frame assy. This is what they call it, the unit that the belts reside on. The transport assy. sounds more like it for me. My opinion the belts are just made from bad stuff. They don't hold up and need improved. Xerox phaser 4600 uses the same part, number of course are different.

They aren't printing on fancy lawyer paper are they? That caused me headaches for a very long time back in the day.
