Re: error code L4 - 31
I've two questions:
If the right side door (slides over rails) is open, are both fans (paper output cooling fans) normally running or if door is open, the fans are normally disabled? So, never run, even in sim 6-2 mode?
And where is the toner hopper fan located?......if he is installed, I understood not every machine has one.Leave a comment:

Is this a frontier series? Usually it is fan on top of Rightside door assembly. Can clean door contacts for fix most of time.Leave a comment:

Re: error code L4 - 31
This morning I tried the following:
remove the HDD cooling fan, that one is running, I saw that.
remove one of the paper output cooling fan.
installed the original HDD cooling fan on the place of the "faulty" paper output cooling fan.
installed the original paper output cooling fan behind the HDD.
power up the machine......same error code: L4-31.
the HDD cooling fan is running well........BOTH paper output cooling fans are dead, not running.
Ran sim 6-2......both fans are not running, but the HDD fan is running well.
right now, I'm pretty sure that both fans are oke......but the problem is the power, or control elektronics for the fans.
I measured no 24 V on the terminal of the fans, but 24V are at the terminal of the HDD fan.
is there somwere a fuse?
were is the control board located for both fans?

Re: error code L4 - 31
I'm sorry that I didn't mentioned more clearly the brand/modelnumber SHARP MX3501N......but in post #1 is the name of the picture: touch-screen MX3501N.
This evening (if I have time and the mood) I will swap one of those fans with the HDD cooling fan.........see what happens.
Right now, I have to work elsewere, not in the office.
Thanks so far!Leave a comment:

Re: error code L4 - 31
Curiously this thread does not mention a model number. Did you mention some model number? I didn't think so.
The error codes often differ between different models. Do not assume that they are the same, or that I would psychically know what model Sharp MFP that you have.
The manual reference in my previous post is for a Dragon I (AR-M550N). =^..^=

Re: error code L4 - 31
now I'm confused.
see both pics, I assumed this is the correct part:
in the technical manual, section O, page O-1 and O-2 is told the removal of the paper output section.
I followed this instructions, cpt 3A and removed the unit.....2 fans. Now everthing is back into the machine, but left the exhaust duct cover outside, so I can move the fans by hand.
your picture?....I do not recognise this. three fans? it is a mx3501N

Re: error code L4 - 31
My apologies. I thought that was L4-30. L4-31 is exit section fan motors: 6-2 > CFM-U4
Your diagram is from the document feeder. See page 99 (6-44 of the service manual). This is the diagram you want.

Re: error code L4 - 31
Yes, I ran sim 6-2. You'll see 4 options.....3 of them are working (you hear starting somewere fans, but option 4 nothing. And the fans are never rotating,
The fans are now accessable, the right cabinet is open, also the topcover has been removed with the filter housing.
You can see the fans, and give them a little help with your fingers, but nothing happens, see picture below, the POFM_R and L.
I checked the connector on top, no power.
The connector DF-18 .... pin 6,7,11,8,9 ...... no power at all.
Question: were is connector CN13 located?

Re: error code L4 - 31
The fans you're concerned with should start up in 6-2 > CFM-ICU/HDD. Take off the back cover so that you can see them operate. =^..^=Leave a comment:

Re: error code L4 - 31
I found something on the WWW.
cancel error codes: run sim 14.
I tried that, and entered YES to remove all the error messages.
After rebooting, he came up with the same message: L4-31. No 24V on the terminals of both fan.
It is sunday now, so I will not working too much in the office, now back home, tomorrow I'll swap some fans, see what happens, else.....
hit me, I'm out of options.Leave a comment:

Re: error code L4 - 31
Yes, I ran sim 6-2. Then you have the choise for 4 testruns different fans. Three tests you can hear running different fans......but enter POFM (the faulty fans, paper exit section) , nothing you can hear.
Also, try to start by hand during the sim 6-2.....nothing. also tried to move the fans with a good swing by hand, and/or screwdriver.......nothing. (I put a drop of sil oil on the bearings, they are running smoothly by hand, a good swing by hand, he will turn a few rounds.)
I measured with a VOLT meter (black pin on chassis, and red pin an all wires directly on the fan gives 0 Volt.
Is there somewere a fuse?
Behind the backpanel I see a lot of fuses, but all oke......maybe a hidden one for the fans?
how to cancel the error messages?
BTW: the HDD fan is running well......so you can swap this fan for one of the POFM fans?
Background info: I'm now an enduser of this machine, but worked several years (from 1985 till 2007) as a technical elektrical engineer, servicing and installing elektron microscopes in hospitals.
So, this machine is for me a challenge to get it working.
Thanks in advance for your help.Last edited by wim; 09-04-2016, 12:15 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: error code L4 - 31
well.....i cleaned the fans, a little oil on the bearings, and rotate a few times by hand, and cleaned everything around it......(a lot of dust)
by power on, i start the fans by hand to move, but nothing, they are not moving.
I measured no power (24V)...... is there somewhere a fuse? I checked already the connector(s), that looks oke.
any suggestions?
With reference to frame ground you should have 24vdc at one lead, all the time, even when the fan isn't ON.
When one of the fan speeds is turned ON, one of the remaining leads will (should) go to ground.
Use sim 6-2 to enable the fan, then check the voltages. For me, it's always been fan failure, not a driver board failure, but nothing is impossible.
There are two fans (HDD and Printer Controller) on the same circuit. Does either of these fans run? If yes, what happens if you swap them? They are identical. =^..^=Leave a comment:
