AR-M237 with U2-40 + "check toner cartridge" on OEMs

Customer ordered toner for AR-M237. " Change toner cartridge" was in display. I had a recycled cartridge with chip from Static Control. I have used their AR-M237 chip for another customer which worked fine.
Got message "check toner cartridge". I put the chip on the empty cartridge to see what I would get and got same thing ( "check toner cartridge".
I assumed there was a problem with chip. I came back to customer's office with 2 OEM cartridges(AR-M310NT)as customer now wanted OEM and an extra.
I installed cartridge and it went into ready. I made several copies then left. Customer called an hour later with a U2-40 on OEM cartridge. I instructed customer to try simulation 16 but each time it reset it would come back when customer made a copy and paper would jam.
I told customer to open other new cartridge and change. When customer did this he got the "check toner cartridge" message on the second OEM cartridge.
I have to go back tomorrow and I guess I'll check contact in back. Any suggestion you can make would be appreciated very much as I am not sure what to do and beginning to panic here. Fran/ActionPhotocopy

The bracket that holds the connector for the toner cartridge on rear frame can easily be bent. It's likely not reading the chip correctly, and the bracket can be bent back into shape.

Thank you Zootech. Do you think at some point customer shoved cartridge in too hard causing bracket to bend back a little? I assume i may have to remove rear cover. Frank

Very possible, even with new setups, I've had to seat the cartridge rather hard.
It is a lot easier to reform the bracket from the rear, so the cover needs to come off.

The rectangular bracket appeared to be okay but I wasn't sure if the connector itself may have spread a little so I wedged a smaal flathead between right side of connector and frame an tried alosing a little. After that the machine went into ready and seemed to be okay after turning on and off a number of times.
I had tried a bunch of other things first as I didn't want to take a chance with chip connection before ruling out other potential causes. i'm keeping finers crossed as it's not like changing a broken gear and then the machine works. Also customer took the other new cartridge to new office thay are moving to so I couldn't test for U2-40 on 2nd cartridge. Thanks again Zootech.
I just want to make sure though that when you said bracket are you talking about the rectangular that gets removed with 2 screws after removing rear cover as that looked rather difficult to bend to me.? Frank

Yep, that's the one, and believe me, a PO'd customer not being able to insert cartridge will force it in and will bend the bracket just enough so chip is incorrectly read.

Customer called this morning and now cartridge which was causing "check toner cartridge" has U2-40.
Someone said this morning that the Ar-310nt may not work on some AR-m237s (earlier models) and that ar-271nt should be used. Does anyone have information about that. Is the Sharp AR-271nt still available?
I was told by one dealer that ar-310nt is used for all Ar-m237. The machine I put the toner in was mfrd. june 2006. Frank

Thanks again Zootech. I took chip off cartridge and manually inserted chip into connector. I turned on power and the machine started up okay. This told me it was a connection problem. I removed back panel and examined connector and could see the blue Sharp chip inside connector but I didn't think it was in far enough. I removed connector bracket and bent slightly toward inside of machine and reinstalled and after that machine started working. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Happy Thanksgiving . Frank
