sharp 450 second or back side adjustment?

Can some one tell me how to adjust the scanner for second side to equal the front side. problem- when duplexing the back side is darker than the front side. when machine was install it was working fine. this place has electrical problems and installed a triplite LC1800 line conditioner for that but noise may be a problem also. as I read the book 46-17 should let me adjust it but I haven't had any luck yet. Change scanners to see if that would fix as the book says it is stored in scanner. didn't help. any help appreciated
    jp
also on this machine we were having a problem with job build as when all pages were scanned in (81/2X11) the machine would ask for 11X17 paper. the switches on doc are working and are not being depressed. but unpluging machine and grounding out plug with machine on seems to have solved that.

Sim. 46-17 adjusts the white reference only. Adjusting this setting can lead to other problems such as black lines and errors. You need to adjust sim 46-20. There is even and odd for the slit glass exposure (whatever you choose to set them at, make sure they are set to the same value) Use DSPF to adjust the CIS exposure. If I remember correctly the higher the number the lighter the copy. This should allow you to get both sides fairly equal. Good luck (You should set 46-17 back to its default first)

The backside of duplex darker is often caused by a tech who has attempted to fix an SPF skew problem by adjusting the right hinge. I did this once. This would work fine if it was an old analog Mita, but for a digital Sharp it doesn't work so well.

To re-align the white plate on the slit glass with the CIS you'll need your millimeter scale. lower the SPF as far as you can, at the rear of the slit glass measure the distance between the guide mylar and the edge of the slit glass. Then check the same measurement at the front. Adjust the right hinge adjustment so that measurement is the same. Keep in mind that both measurements will change when you adjust the hinge, not just the front.

For the problem with 11x8 1/2 scanning as 11x17 there are two common possibilities:
      1) The original length sensor in the SPF tray may be broken or returning slowly. It can also drag on the edge of the opening in the tray. It's a gravity operated actuator with no return spring, and the counterweight is often not quite heavy enough. I usually find a longer screw to act as counterweight.
      2) This one is much harder to fix, because you must fix the behavior not the machine. You may have a user that likes to stack piles of documents to be scanned next, right on that length sensor, telling the SPF that it has ledger, not letter. Your user doesn't even know that they are doing it, and it's usually just one user that has the problem. It's even more difficult to diagnose when faxing because the user never sees the printoffs. When faxing the machine does not ask for 11x17 paper, it rotates the image and reduces it 64%. The way to fix this one is to find that one user, and have that person show you exactly what they are doing when it happens.

      Have fun. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

        thanks for the replies
we did uses 46-20 on both scanners without any luck. also we know for a fact that we scanned pages in the job build and the machine called for 11X17 with out touching the 11X17 switch. the doc hasn't been adjusted sense install ( about 4 months ago) and we bought it used and PMed it including disassembly and clean and lub and machine has been running well until now. we will go back monday with a few more ideas.
