Sharp AR 5516 F2 -40 error

My friend has a Sharp 5516 with 90.000 copies. He gets F2-40 error and he uses compatible toner not the original. I suspect there is no developer left or dev sensor is faulty. The problem appeared a month ago and after switching off and on the copier it was ok. Since yesterday the error stays and the copier doesnt work.
Any ideas....?

Check dv unit for presence of DV, then check toner motor and that toner feed path is clear and working properly. could be anything from a bad sensor to no dv to a stuck toner shutter or clogged toner feed tube.
