[CQ] MXC300W funny coloured or black line

Hi everyone, I have reported to me a MXC300W which the customer says gives them a wavy black or dark purple line right down the edge of the copy when they use the document feeder or the glass to copy something. When I went there I couldnt get it to do it but the customer had samples so i could see it. They said it was fine when printing from the PC and only showed when they copied something. I am thinking could it be the scanner ribbon cable blocking the light when scanning, althoug it looked all ok when i watched it scanning with the lid up?

Anyone had this problem or agree its the scanner cable, these are the easiest to get into the scanner so wanted to be sure first.

    Thanks

        Have seen this numerous times.
In each case it was a whole new scanner that was required.
The scanner unit is a complete part. It is quite sealed as one unit, and its very easy to replace.
The problem starts small, usually as a purple and/or black band through the whole scan or copy (through feeder or on glass), but eventually grows to covering the whole page. Its usually a quite corrupt 'digital fuzz' sort of image.
The CIS unit breaks down and its easier to replace the whole scanner due to the part upgrades within it.
Only seen hinge problems on the 300W when the feeder was forced open. If the feeder sit sitting flat, and the problem is random or slowly getting worse, the problem is the CIS Unit (but replace the scanner as a complete part). Its not as hard as it sounds!
