Epson utilizes HTML service manuals, and they work very well, other than the fact that they are 4GB each. I tried accessing as well, but you need a login for it? It also initially opens in Japanese which is kinda silly from an American site.

What is the advantage to them?

Epson's specifically have an added search function which is game changing, in my opinion. They also use photos which explains the massive file size of them. Now the login portal within makes me think they are trying to limit access to manuals, rather than increase functionality. Biggest drawback is for those who view manuals on iOS/Android.
