    BP-C50DUSA Drum Units

Anyone else having problems with these drum units leaving lines and spots on copies after 1500 to 4000 copies. I've had 3 machines do it that were on their first drum units out of the box. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks Ron

So here what I've found so far :
    The cheatsheet
Do you use 6-90 and remove the drum pressure before moving the copier from your preproom to the customer location ?
There is a new drum "for productivity improvement" (almost black instead of green)
Firmware update then 55-01 SW-5 6 to keep the drum turning

6-90 says: "Reset Machine to Factory Setting (Set to Scanner Lock Enable Position)". Sounds like a sim that they put in for a non-existent issue. We've been pulling the charge rods out, but we've also received machines from a secondary refurb vendor, and they don't put those locks in place and we haven't had any issues. So, I'm not sure what to believe at this point.

We haven't had any drum issues besides one flipping 2 days after we installed it. Warrantied the drum unit and haven't had any other issues.

I'm sure mostly everyone knows about the charge rollers being left in contact with drum while moving leaves lines on drums. We have had on one BP making random thin double lines on the print. After thoroughly cleaning all the charge roller contacts in the drum units and back of the machine, it doesn't appear to have returned. Maybe the charge rollers aren't what they're cracked up to be. Could they be prematurely picking up debris and becoming damaged ?

That's what happens with the low-end Kyoceras. The 306-308 series machines are hot garbage mostly because of the drum units not lasting.

This one drum unit has 25,000 copies on it and it looks like it picked up debris and also scratched the drum surface.

6-90 is just the Transport Mode

It isn't the charge rollers causing the lines/damage to drums - it is the cleaning blade left in contact with a single spot, the lubrication from the toner disappears, and a thin line forms from this contact. We have seen this over the years on many models, and just not Sharps. If you look at the drum under magnification (we have a magnified lamp in our shop), you can see this abrasion very clearly.
