Ick, Mac and printers definitely have not been mixing well unless using AirPrint which is way too basic. We had to setup a Mac environment with a windows PC to act as a print server for them because presets and defaults don't work on Mac much anymore. That particular customer has a booklet finisher, folding unit, and envelopes in tray one, it's terrible.

Mac has no place in a real work environment.

Older thread. But I just wanted to add my two cents from my experience, because I almost did a spit take.

I don't like using Airprint for the following reasons.
Too many remote support sessions starting with: "Machine prints real slow!"
"It takes 2 minutes to print"
        "Doesn't print"

PDF files that require flattening exasperates this issue.
So many PDF files require flattening. And some PDF managing applications don't have "Print as image" in an obvious location.
Many health clients and insurance clients use proprietary applications that manage there printing and oh my god. It's always the one with airprint causing issues.

Just now, 45 minutes ago I got a call from a client who couldn't print from her iphone.
Needed to Log in, change the Bounjour name under the mDns settings so that she can print. Waste of time.

Stapling functions, punch functions, offset functions. So many functions that are not available because, BASIC..

Maybe it's just me. But we have 100's or "RS" (Remote support) tickets, and almost all of them outside of IP conflicts, and Router changes, the problem was solved by changing the driver from Airprint, to the PPD driver.

        My 2 cents.

AirPrint was never intended to give you the full functioality of the MFP. It's more akin to "I've got a meeting with the investigatve team in 10 minutes, and I need to print some copies of my notes for the other detectives and staff. " Bing and a bang, AirPrint. Done!
