    Sharp MX-5001N Life Expectancy

    I'm interested in buying a used MX-5001N copier with a total of ~500K prints and I was wondering what the life expectancy of these machines is? With the assumption that the proper maintenance cycle is observed, can I at least get another 500K prints without any major problems?

      This is a very old machine.

      If you want to scan to network folders or email it will not work for you.

      You will have to use a universal or generic driver to print to it.

      They were good machines, but I don't know about you getting 1 million out of it.

      Parts would also be hard to find for it.

          ... and it won't be a linear function. You'll be cruising along with plenty of toner & consumables ... then you can't get the one thing you need to keep it running. Unless, of course you're building up a scrapyard of spare machines to pull parts off of.

          Here's a good example: Up until last month I've been using a CS-1650 in my office. It's 20 yrs old, but it does everything I need it to. We had an extended brownout that corrupted the engine EEPROM. Can you buy a new engine EEPROM? ... no. Can you substitute an engine EEPROM from another machine? ... no. Will Kyocera make me a new engine EEPROM? ... no.

          It has become a parts machine for the next machine in line. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                      Yes, the AR-M455N is defiantly a relic. I remember that is when Sharp changed their design from the SF-2022/2035 series etc. to the "printer" style for lack of a better term. We still have one in the field that is at a church and still working. The MX-5001 with half a million, I would not spend much money if any on the purchase of it, due to parts availability as mentioned above. I am sure all of the seals are shot including the dev. unit seals and possibly the dev. units themselves.

                          According to my documentation, Sharp stopped supporting that model in 2019. that means no new parts have been made for 3 years.

                              I still have a few, some with 1000k copies. They still scan to email easy, but we cant get black dev from Sharp anymore.You better have a second as parts doner. Attrition is comming.....

                                  They are still in use believe it or not in plenty of Gov' spaces. They refuse to die. They are used for Copies only, and sometimes printing on an Windows 7 slave.

                                  We still have x2 refurbished process units and fusers at the ready. Lol

                                      We still have a few in the field as well, MX-3100N (just retired one a month ago with over 1M), MX-4101N and a MX-5001N but, scanning through old Sharpdesk, no email.

                                          Well, official answer is 1.8 Million (as-per Sales Guide), but how long is a piece of string?!
                                          I've seen these models do well over 3 Million, but they required major work along the way, as they were being used will in excess of their rated duty cycle.
                                          You'll have no problems with alot more straight printing work, provided you can find parts and consumables.
