We are installing an MX-5071 with account codes for the users. When I tried to install a user that shares the same # as another user, it will not allow me to install the user because the machine says " number already in use" or something to that effect. Is there a way I can create a group for this issue so I can put multiple users under a 5 digit shared #? If so I am not sure how to set that up. Any ideas?

I don't know. We are going to look at their old 5141N and see how they have it set up. They gave us a list for programming the new machine, at our shop, and we ran into this issue.Comment

Re: Sharp MX-5071 authentication/user codes with the same #
Well, the client has multiple users on one code. If I put one person on the user list with the authentication #, I would just enter the other user in the address book and they will authenticate with the persons # in the user list. I did not ask questions, I did not offer to change it, less is best sometimes.
All cases I have authenticated with a user #, each client had their own #, so this was a new one to me. Machine was installed and all is working good.Comment

Re: Sharp MX-5071 authentication/user codes with the same #
Were the accounts created manually on the new unit, or did you load the imported file from the previous model? I don't know if it's the same file type.
I would also suggest the client to change the name of the account if the # is to be shared between employees (like "Jack & Jeff", or "Shipping"). That's what I do with the MX-5070, which seems pretty much the same as to the UI. There's usually no way 2 different accounts can share the same # nowadays, as the system will reject the second one while you try to create it.Comment

Re: Sharp MX-5071 authentication/user codes with the same #
First, I tried to clone the address book and account codes, the prior model to the 5071 was a 5141N, it would not transfer all the account codes, as some of the codes would come up as invalid codes. So, the team and I added them manually, it took about a half hour, and the problem we ran into was that it would not allow us to add duplicate user #'s for different individuals. So, we just added one # in the account codes, but added users that can use that # in the address book. The client seems happy with that solution so far, but time will tell. I am not sure of the dynamics yet, but believe the individuals that share the same code are working as a team and thought about renaming the individual # to a team # if problems arise in the future, possibly.Comment

Re: Sharp MX-5071 authentication/user codes with the same #
So the inner system between the 2 machines are definitely not the same: the imported file type is compatible (which is lucky!), but its content is not treated the same way, as the 5071 sees the doubled # and doesn't like it. Good to know, but not very helpful for your problem, unfortunately.Comment
