Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! I am working on this machine and when the machine first predrives it makes a sound kind of like if the fuser scraper blade is foll of toner, or a web that is overloaded with toner, or maybe a flipped cleaning blade. Hard to describe. It only does it on the first copy when the machine first drives. It almost seems like the transfer drive. I have checked all drum units and developers. I swapped out both transfer units and the secondary transfer drive unit. Seeing if this sounds familiar at all? Thanks for any help.

Re: MX-4070N noise on startup
Phoenix can be noisy MFP's when it comes to squeaks.
Some thoughts. First, I would blame the fuser, and see where that gets you.
Next, I've seen noisy delivery units. Specifically the fusing shafts for the follower rollers.
11 NSFTZ3500FCZZ AE DJ C Fusing rear follower shaft
-Clean and use oil.
Or there is a groove on the deliver roller:
NROLR2133FCZ2 3 AR EQ N A Lower delivery roller
Caused by earth plate 1:

or Earth plate 2:
31 QEARP0395FCZZ AD DJ N C Lower delivery roller earth plate
-You would need to use sand paper to smooth off groove and be generous with your conductive grease.
The clutch at transport drive 1s get noisy:
9 PCLC-0399FCZZ AR EQ N B Clutch(3.5Kg) specifically the ones that run the Paper Feed Assembly.
You need to add floil grease to the transport drive gear in Delivery Drive Unit:
7 NGERH2482FCZZ AE DJ N C Gear(17/62T)
The ENTIRE fusing drive section has updated parts, but I remove the drive and clean them routinely when checking for noise.
Lower right door sometimes needs floil grease.
Transfer belt has cushions modified for squeaks.

I might start calling them rats they squeak all the time, lol.Comment

Re: MX-4070N noise on startup
A long shot, but if you got your machine from a reseller, there's a decent chance they didn't pack the DV/Toner properly when shipping, and there's DV/Toner now in the drive pack. We used to use a company, bought 42 machines at one point, and 25 of them at least had the main drive, and fuser drive motors shred because of DV/Toner that got in them. The white gears would be almost black by the time the problem would occur. Typically the noise would be a lot more severe, but it could just be the start of it as well. Definitely try the easier things first, and hopefully it's not as extreme as the drive pack(s), but good luck!Comment

Re: MX-4070N noise on startup
Always have to think that time plays a factor in things. Also, we've only maybe had 2 or 3 fusers last to the suggested replacement interval. They're junk, just like the '71 series fusers, plus the MXFN27 and BPFN11 inner finishers.Comment

Re: MX-4070N noise on startup
If you rebuild them, make sure you dedicate time and care to really clean and be generous with Floil Grease, your Silicon Oil, and fusing grease where the Manual says you should.
Pay attention to where plastic meets metal, it's gonna squeak.Comment

Those fusers have a lot of updates.

I just hate when the cheap holders for the bar in the belt unit break and lock the unit up... and the drive gear breaking... and the constant build up... and the.. oh you get the point.Comment
