    MX-6201N Major Distortion

    Hi,

I'm not a professional, I work in a preschool and we were donated an old machine that I'd like to keep running.
Googling mostly results in "replicating the photocopier distortion effect" so I thought I'd give you guys a try before I try and find the service manual.

Scanning is fine, but printing results in major distortion on the left hand side.

Does anyone know what's causing this?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    No.pdf

Your pdf printed copy looked good what format did you print the non pdf in?
I see a lot of speckling (black dots).
Your best bet is to call a service company near you to evaluate the copier for you since it was donated to you and they can give you a written estimate on their first call as to what they say it needs. Too many variables to guess here.

Is it always distorted in the same way on every print/copy on non-PDF? And is it distorted on every page in a multi-page print/copy job in the same place?

          Wow,

          thanks for the replies everyone.

We're affiliated with a University so I have to go through their contracts for sevice, which are prohibitive, so it's just me I'm afraid.
I uploaded a scan (fine) and then scanned in a photocopy (not fine) - both pdfs to demonstrate the difference. Printing leads to the same distortion as photocopying.

I'm looking at buying a Primary Transfer Maintenance kit MX-450Y1 and switching out parts, do you think that's feasible? I have a week without kids at Spring Break and nothing to lose.

          @WackyJack
I would say it's similar but not exactly the same each time, and just the first page when I hit the B/W copy button. Weirdly it distorts the last page when I hit the Color button on a B/W document.

Also I just printed a B/W document in color and the three colors didn't match up, they were about 2mm apart. No idea if that's a separate issue.

I should add that this is a recent development, the machine has been working fine for a few months and has been a godsend, but has seen heavy use. I did suggest not hammering it too hard, but - you do what you can.

I agree it could be the transfer belt gear, however, you're likely going to have a heck of a time getting parts for this model. Parts were discontinued 5 years ago. The WHOLE UNIT Part number is DUNT-7980DS13. I would recommend that as that transfer unit is a little rough to deal with if you don't know your way around it.

Thanks for the part number. Do the parts from the kit not replace those in the Primary 1st Transfer Belt Unit Assy?

Here's the kit I'm talking about
              Sharp MX-6201N Primary Transfer Kit - 300K, Genuine (G2162)

I can get it way cheaper this just has a picture.

You have the wrong maintenance kit, my manual says MX-701Y1 for U.S.A/Canada/South and Central America/Asia/Middle East/Agencies market, MX-700B1 + MX-701X1 for Europe/UK/Australia/New Zealand market
But if you only need the gear it's NGERH1668FCZ1 (and it's still available in France O_o)

So how I would proceed :
Copy 5 black only, 5 Cyan only, 5 Magenta only, 5 Yellow only, 5 Colors, then check where and when you see the default.

Gently remove the Primary transfer belt unit. Do not shake it or ding that belt!
Check the white gear on the rear. Turn by hand and see if it slips. It has a screw holding it on.
If you remove the gear to inspect, remember that pin!!! Don't lose it.
Look at where the pin drives that gear. Is it wallowed out/broken? They usually are.
You can also try simulation 50-22 and see if that helps, IF the gear is not broken.
