MX-6071 Slow Tray 1 color output

I have an off lease unit that was refurbished and installed last week and has about 250 k combined prints. Everything on the unit functions and works as it should except color printing and copying from tray one only. It prints anything in color from tray one very slowly. It has about a 3 second wait in between each color page during each print. It always prints perfectly with no jams but it's about 10 prints per minute rather than 60. However, black prints works from tray 1 at 60 prints per minute. No issues with black and white out of tray one only color. Paper tray two works perfect on every function as it should and the correct speed.

Internal prints from tray 1 have the same symptom. Black and white works at the correct speed but color is slow.

It's almost as if it's trying to run a very high quality print from tray one only or it's trying to spool up the image. These are not large PDFs by any means I've tried several different file types and sizes. I have compared all media types outputs and sizes for the two trays and they are all the same that I can find. There's never any adding toner or auto calibration in progress message on the display.

Firmware was updated. I have temporarily disabled tray one and made tray two their default until I find a solution.

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. It's still really feels like a setting issue but I can't find one.
    Best rule for troubleshooting.

First things first. Did you push a clone on to the machine?

Is tray one configured for heavy paper?

No I did not clone any machine, however, I'm not sure what was done with the machine before we got it. I missed on my checklist to do a factory reset which is my next step, but I did not want to do it during the busy work day as the customer relies heavily on this model.

It does act as though tray one is set to heavy paper or labels, but I double checked that both trays are set to plain 1 paper. Every setting I could find are identical from tray to tray. Also, if the media was set differently for tray 1, it would do it for black also not just color.

Could try backing up the system settings, resetting them back to factory defaults, and see what happens. That's a 3 minute check you could do with the network unplugged so print jobs don't mess anything up.

I've seen weird issues with tray 1 after being cloned from a machine that didn't have auto-select in tray 1(ended up jamming though settings were correct), so you could try changing the paper type and size to something else, submitting the change, then revert back to what you want.

If you don't know if it was cloned previously, as in someone else may have cloned it but not your company, I would always assume it's a strong possibility. The '71 series began the problems we had with slow output issues, but we could never recreate it, but we may not have been printing color... That's also why we don't clone anything anymore, Sharp's are too finicky now.

dumb suggestion, but have you changed the orientation of the paper in tray 1 and tested it? I had a similar issue with a diff model I just had to changed it from long to short or vice versa.

Re: MX-6071 Slow Tray 1 color output

              From Sharp technical:

A4 Prints and copies slowly from Tray one. All other trays OK and A4R and A3 are Ok too. Mono Black and white prints fine.
paper exits the machine and there is a delay before the next sheet exits.

There is a delay in the paper reaching the Reg (paper Stop) unit which causes the machine to have to clean the transfer unit and re-make the image.

This delay slows the machine down.
Please fit new Tray one paper feed unit to rectify this issue.
