The thing that's got me on this is that when I change out the complete Drum Unit with another one, the noise stops. I would think it had something to to with the Drum Motor not turning the Augur and then locking up.

If you changed the drum unit with a brand new one and the problem went away but has come back after some use the only thing i can think of is the drive pack. Maybe a gear lost a tooth or wore them badly. New drum unit would have no toner so it would be super easy to spin. Once it has got some use the drive will have to work harder to turn every thing in the waste section.
That ARM550 i had that broke gears in the drive, the dam thing would spin fine when the drum unit was out. I didn't clue in to head for the pack until i actully grabbed the coupler and made the thing work hard.
What have you guys found for life in these packs? Ive had to change them at 600k in a few machines cause the bushings were wearing down. I don't rebuild them.Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.Comment

Life? On Tigers 1M prints. I saw my last Jupiter three years ago, and none of them had quite gotten to 1M yet.If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

This sounds like the same issue I'm having with an AR-M450. It's definitely coming from the drum unit. I haven't replaced the drum unit as of yet because it turns smoothly. Like you everything turns nice and smooth. After reading this post I checked the other things mentioned. I took a closer look at the drum unit and the drum gear feels like it's worn. I have changed out Drum Units and the noise has come back. I just again, changed out the Drum Unit, 2nd time, and changed out anything that might cause a Leak - DV or Toner.
Now, it is a wait and see, to see if I got it right. If this doesn't work, I am at a lose. I was even thinking I needed to change out the Main Drive Unit.
I'll let you know by Posting again if something happens again. I got about another 30-days to go. That's about how long the last Drum Unit lasted.Comment

Mind if I ask what you mean when you refer to Jupiter and tigers?
I'm assuming they are engine references that refer to certain models...but is their a guide to which ones are which?Comment
